Also, I just tried to re-create the issue, but can't get it to do that for me. Is there a particular thread? I was looking at some of the larger threads that we have...

The bus stop has been the worst for me, but it happens in any thread at random times I have a theory that it happens more when photos are pasted in, and this seems to happen regardless of whether the thread is 2 pages long or 100 The other day I snaffled the bus stop to see if a fresh page would then load- which worked great, I could see the thread again Hope this is helpful to you, thank you for all the work you do to keep our forum alive

Thanks, Summer. I've just successfully loaded the bus stop thread. I'll report your experiences, and we'll see what happens.

I wonder if the problem may be caused by the antivirus/firewall software used by people with their iPhones (assuming they are using such software). Baz's description of the problem has similarities with the random nature of the bug reported elsewhere with sometimes not being able to reply to quotes. I suspect that the quoting bug is due to antivirus scanning taking place at the same time as a page is loaded which causes the page not to be properly loaded.

 

This would explain why some people have these random problems and others don't. I don't have an iPhone so can't test this out.

Sorry Lori, I've only just seen this.... The threads I have had probs with are the Penthouse, The Bus Stop, and a couple of other biggish threads....

Yes, it is a bit like that El Loro.....  I am not sure about the Iphone, but I certainly have a firewall on my laptop...... I also ca't help but wonder if it is linked to the picture/photo posting...... cos that certainly seemed to mess things up at one time.... although not recently.

Hi, El Loro: I wasn't even aware that there IS antivirus/firewall software for the iPhone...but if there IS, the vast majority of users are not using it.

 

I'm just gonna hang tight and let the developers do what they need to do, when they can do it.

 

It's more likely linked to images and their size....but again, I'm not a developer, nor do I play one on TV.

I've not heard of iPhone antivirus software I have an iMac and I know it works differently to Microsoft, the way it works prevents changes taking place on your computer without a password and the system will automatically shut down if an attempted attack does take place..

I think we've discussed that before with the developers, but I'll mention it again.

We're still having trouble reproducing this error. Can you please tell me  which version of the operating system you are using? I apologize if you've told me this before. I know that Baz has a 3G: that's a 3G and not a 3Gs? And Summer is an iPhone 4?

Also, on the quote thingy, I presume you aren't talking about the iPhone app, since it's not available on the app?

 

It's pretty simple: if you click the quotes icon (bottom right of each post), it'll automatically bring up a posting screen with the entire post quoted. Delete what you don't want, if any, and then click outside the colored box to add your own comments.  The plus icon next to the quote icon is for multi-quoting--you can quote several posts in one reply.

Hi Lori & co I'm having a lot of grey screen issues again lately, particularly in the Ben buddies thread over in BB forum. It seems to happen even when small pics are posted.. Hope this is helpful

On the Ben's Buddies current page, at the present moment, there are no pictures or video clips posted there, though Summer has had the grey screen appearing today when looking at that page. I don't know if adverts appear on the iPhone app, but if they do, could that be behind Summer's problem? Different adverts appear each time a page is loaded, so it could explain why sometimes Summer gets a grey screen, and sometimes not.

I don't believe there are any ads on the iPhone app, but it could be because I don't see them (as an admin). Summer, are there ads?

 

There is a fix for this problem in a release that is due out this week. Hopefully you'll see an improvement, then.

Even if the adverts don't appear on the iPhone app, it is possible that the coding does include the coding lines for these adverts. Some of the adverts which appear do require Flash Player (such as the Google Chrome one and the StopZilla one), others don't. This would then explain the intermittent nature of this problem. Let's hope the update this week fixes this.

 

(in Firefox, right click on the advert comes up with a menu, on some there is an option "About Flash Player...", on other ads, no such option).

I've asked, and I've been told that the coding for the app does not include any of the coding for the ads.

So that rules the adverts idea out. Thanks for checking this out, Lori, as it did seem to be a logical cause. Let's hope the update sorts out Summer's problem.
