Regarding your question (as above). I saw a programme on TV that completely negated the need for energy drinks. They spoke with athletes who said that water in conjunction with a jam sandwich were what they used. Also have a coffee half an hour before training was another.
They also had a good look at expensive training shoes and came to the conclusion that they were more about selling expensive footwear to people than actually providing any benefits. A pair of cheap plimsoles would be just as good.
