by a couple of teenagers I had never seen before probably about 14-15 if I would go into the shop and buy a game for them as it was a 18. I said No and walked off made me feel a right old stick in the mud funny thing is I have bought games as presents for my 13 year old godson that are rated 18 the difference being I have used my own judgement on the game (some 18 games are bad some aren't) and know what his parents allow.

Like I said it made me feel a miserable old so and so but what would you have done got them the game or said no.

Dunno much about games Neil tbh, but I do go mad at my mate when she let's her 11 year old play GTA and such like. She never bothers with the age stuff, just gets them for him if he asks.

Now she's much more aware because I nag her about it and so does her adult daughter.

With regard to the kids who asked you, I would reckon that if they were allowed to have the game then their parents would have got it for them. Either that or they didn't want the parents to know they had that much cash on them.

I wouldn't have got it for them but then I won't buy fags or booze for teens if they ask me either - and I can remember hanging around the shops at 15 or 16 with mates and asking adults to buy stuff for us!!

I'm a hypocrite

Thats the thing with games some are 18 for no good reason and others like manhunt series  are really bad. I didn't know what the game was and didn't know the kids so just said no and  walked off so they didn't try and convince me. I just didn't want to get involved.

Like you say it is up to the parents to get them it if they are allowed it. I think they had been refused service and were just trying there luck. Refusing did make me feel a right old so and so though.

Obviously it's up to you what you think, but I really do think it's OTT bull shit about games like GTA making kids turn into insane car jackers and muggers. I played GTA when I was 11 and I haven't turned into a criminal. Loadsa lads I know also played GTA at that age and haven't turned bad.

My boy plays 18 yr old games..    most of them I don't have a problem with.    the only exception so far has been Grand Theft Auto (Vice City I think)..       I became concerned when the boy showed no interest in pursuing the game's objective.... but instead would spend hours chasing ladies of the night around trying to bludgeon them with a crowbar.

I took that game off him & traded it in

That ^^^ was a couple of years ago..    he's 13 now and plays Black Ops...   I have kept my eye on him and I am happy that there is no cross over between the violence of the game & reality.

As for kids asking you buy an 18 game for them outside a shop..    no, I wouldn't have gone in for them...   at the end of the day they would have been going back to one of their houses to play the game.... so presumeably at least one parent would have to have been ok with them playing it....  let that parent buy it.

Good game that! I was probably about 16 when that came out so wasn't too bad for me. But like I've said I played GTA games at the age of 11 and they really haven't turned me into a serial killer, a pimp or a car thief

I had 3 lads come upto me last year asking me to buy them fireworks!!!! They all looked about 11/12, i was so shocked.

i used to get fags for teens when i 17/18'ish but havent since then and i never got anyone booze etc.

As for 18 cert games, i think thats down to the parents, they know the child best.

I think kids nowadays are subjected to sexual and violent images far to much in everyday things, its a shame as they grow up far to quickly and lose that childhood innocence too early

I even seen them all waiting at the door for me as I was walking across the car park.

That is so wrong but so funny..

Neil, I'd have said no, too.

If he'd have played the game...  followed the plot...  stole the cars etc   I could have handled it.

But seeing him spending hours fixated on beating a hooker with crowbar was just not right

Fireworks!!!

I hate fireworks anyway...      if I had my way they would only be sold to licensed people who put on public displays.    Home fireworks are crap anyway...     and bloody dangerous.

Mmmmm, to a point, assuming that you have an intelligent, considered, responsible and informed parent...unfortunately that's not always the case, so, for the most part, I'd stick with the certifications as they are

Naa you buying wrong fireworks if you getting crap ones the ones. Buy singles not boxes  as long as you aren't daft with them they are safe enough it is much more fun doing it yourself

The game which those boys were trying to buy may have been L A Noire as that is the 18 cert game which has recently been released and advertised on TV. The BBFC in giving it an 18 cert and go into details as to why on their website. I won't go into details here as I would get banned, but the main reason seems to have been the extensive use of the strongest bad language used as well as violence and graphic autopsy scenes.
