Why should you have to remind them it's your opinion? Whose opinion did they think it was? Englebert bleedin' Humperdinks?

oh! I thought it was IMHO.. In Mr Humperdink's Opinion .

God you're contrary Prom!  I've just explained it in the post!  You're not, as such, reminding them that it's your opinion, you're advising them that your opinion is yours but it's not necessarily prescriptive.

I.e. You shouldn't commit murder

or

IMO should listen to Ska music

Why do you need to 'advise' them it's your opinion? Are they stupid?  And nobody should listen to ska unless they want to hate music. Will you take that as fact because I neglected to add it was just an opinion?

I intend to be 'contrary' about this till the bitter end

I have to agree with you wholeheartedly there on the ska crap. Never heard such a load of tripe

People tend to precede their great revelations with 'in my honest opinion' as though what they are about to impart will carry great weight. It always turns out to be complete bollocks

Lol

"in my humble opinion" is only still in use with lawyers and politicians. It means: I was lying and it is going to cost you!

Were as.. "in my honest opinion" is in common usage amongst tradesmen and the like and inevitably means; "I am about to lie, and it is going to cost you"

So I guess it depends on where you put it in a sentence Prom

Yes, they might be stupid, it's the internet after all!

Hmm, that's a matter of opinion, IMO I disagree - see what I've done there?

While I think that you should listen to ska and if you did, you'd have a better taste in music, I acknowledge that liking ska isn't necessarily an authoritive proof of good musical taste, it's just my opinion that liking ska makes you a funamentally better person with better musical taste!

And if someone offers you something as a matter of "fact".. then they are really lying to you and it is going to cost you!!

It's not ska as I recognise it, it's US, 3rd gen Avril Lavigne ska. Most of it's punk/new wave with a section of skanking rhythm.  Frat house music for dudes who address each other as 'dude'.  Watered down Two Tone that makes the Ordinary Boys sound authentic.

It's a figure of speech, it's polite and it's sometimes a way of reminding oneself and others that their opinion is limited to what they may have experienced and that sometimes many opinions exist in the world without there being a problem or conflict.

You trying to say that Whitmore aren't shit enough to be SKA

Ensign Muf

I've been online for many years and noticed on many Forums that to some IMHO means "honest opinion "and to others it means "humble opinion." I've not read any replies apart from the first response so no clues what others opinions are on this subject, so just stating my own. I've used IMHO on different Forums, my intention being that it's..In My Humble Opinion. Whatever the subject everyone's entitled to their own opinion
