Good luck to you too Subee
I am up unspeakably early for me on a Sunday
We start at 11 but we live right next to the venue. I have been scrabbling round looking for my cutlass for the last half an hour Found it so I am having a coffee before we get ready.

...ours is at 11 too I'll be thinking of ya. I hope to do it within the hour of stting off, how about you? Are you wearing all pink? We are 3/4 pink apart from me leggings. The weather isn't too good, it's going to rain at some point , but the spirit of it will keep us goingquote:Originally posted by Angel of the North:

I havent thought about how long it will take....maybe half an hour as we will be walking some of it because I had to stop training coz of uni deadlines (and rain )
I hadnt thought about what I was going to wear till Friday night either and we've decided to wear our pirate gear (we have a lot of pirate gear). I'll have my running leggings on underneath and they have got pink on (forgot I had to have pink on...I am so disorganised, I forgot it was on today and was sure it was next week and only realised on Wednesday)
It's a beautiful day here right now...just hope it stays like this lunch time

Well I'm back
We had a great time and ran about 3/4 of it...we kept having to stop due to other people walking and not being able to get past...then my daughter got a stitch
After spending most of the race waiting for her at the end she sprinted off and beat me
But then she had to come running back because I got interviewed by the fella from the local radio station when I crossed the line (even tho I could hardly speak )
Hope Subee has had as good at time as we did

My son has just completed the Manchester 10k run. He was aimimg for under 50 mins and did it in about 45 (unconfirmed at the mo).
I'm very proud of him - he's raised a good sum for Grimsby Hospital Cancer Unit ........his partners mother was successfully trated for breast cancer there last year.
I'll be looking out for him on BBC2 this afternoon.

Thanks Sarum, thanks everyone
..I did it!! It took us around 50 mins, we had to fight wind and rain, but we got through it great! Loved it and can't wait for next years Angel and her daughter did well too by the sounds of it. We had over 4k women in pink walking/sprinting/crawling, pushing wheelchairs (with someone in ), walking dogs and pushchairs too Well done to one and all....The only drawback was, Q'ing in the car trying to get off the airfield for an hour

Well done you two ...was talking to a friend about this last night and we are going to look into doing it too - walking not running mind! We'll take the dog, assume that's ok as she's a she?!
... i saw a few women with dogs, even wheelchairs and pushchairs As long as you take your poo bags, there shouldn't be a problem. Someone posted a link on here the other day, go back and have a look at it, as they are on different days around the country
....just looked and it's on page 2, Sarum posted it

So sorry that you weren't allowed to take part Sarum, such a shame, and, somewhat shortsighted imo

Sorry about that, I'm just a little bit bitter right now.
We were allowed to take part; I'd done it last year (and enjoyed it immensely), the organisers had no problem, we had a lot of sponsors, but a group of other participants complained.
They were going to stage a protest at the event, and involve the local media, so after discussions with the organisers, and decided that to avoid any unpleasantness, we'd withdraw.

May one ask what the problem was Sarum?
The problem, Moonie, is that "Race for Life" is a women-only event; and my two friends and I don't meet some people's definition of women.

I'm sorry...I tend to assume that everyone here knows.
I was born transsexual, honey; which, in some people's eyes, means that I'm not a 'real' woman.

I'm sorry Sarum I didn't know..
Surely its all about raising money for a good cause, which you was willing to do, isn't it?

Well done everyone that walked today
Sarum, I actually can't believe that happened to you in this day and age

It's OK; like I said, I tend to assume.
Yes, it is a good cause, and having had a little scare about 18 months ago, it's one I support however I can.
Which is really why we withdrew; a protest could have been damaging to CRUK, and we weren't prepared to risk it.
...OMFG!! That's absolutely disgusting!!!! I didn't see him, but a bloke was dressed up in womens clothes with a wig on who raced today, which made me wonder, how did that happen, but there could be many reasons why he did it, but for you to withdraw over some small minded people with big ego's INFURIATES MEquote:Originally posted by Sarum:quote:Originally posted by moonie:

Thank you, Subee and Supercalifyouthinicanspellthatyou'remad
It annoys me too, but what else could we do?
If we'd stuck to our guns and turned up, there would have been a lot of unpleasantness, which would have spoiled the day for everyone else.
I'm sure we'll think of some other way to raise money.
The organisers did suggest that they might be able to amend the rules, but that's not what I want, personally; I don't want to be a 'special exception', I just wanted to have a fun day out, and raise some much-needed cash for women less fortunate than me.
