Today is the 12th anniversary of Princess Diana being killed in a car crash in Paris, and not a I love/hate Diana thread in sight.

I remember back on the C4 boards a couple of years ago on the 10th anniversary, loads of discussion about the whole thing, where people were when they heard and the rise of mass national grief that outpoured that week and the same 2 years ago.

Has time made the anniversary less significant? or are people just sick and tired of the whole thing and see the start of the nationwide grief as a bad thing to come out of it.

I'm watching the Diana years on Sky, not because of any great love of her, just because of there being nothing on I fancied watching and we have got to the national grief after she was brought back home.

Have we become hardened to the pictures and the memories or do we see it now, for what it truly was, a sad accident, that caused the death of a young woman with young children.

I'd be interested to see what others think now, looking back to 12 years ago today.

I`ve given up all hope of the truth being exposed. The establishment won that one as they always have done and forever will do.

At least she exposed and wrecked the monarchy`s reputation.

I think that's what people were actually doing at the time: mourning their own, but finally giving in to their suppressed emotions when Diana died. She represented the deaths of all our loved ones.

I almost watched it on Sky tonight, only it would have clashed with BB and it would be nothing that hasnt been said/seen already. A massive cover-up IMO

Years and years ago, I had a dream about Diana. I was walking up some castle steps and she met me at the top and said that she wanted to go and met ppl in hospitals and that I wasn't to talk about it to anybody. Some 4 or 5 years later I saw on the news that she did just that. T'was weird.

Yes. It was felt ok to mourn publically for Princess Diana, but not if it's one of your own. People don't like it.

Sorry to interrupt and not offering opinions on the Diana saga (I'm a Republican at heart) but could someone tell me what snaffle means? I've seen it a few times now and it's got me confuddled.

This is what my research has come up with:

The verb snaffle is a British colloquialism. Born on the croquet lawns of Oxford, it was originally coined as a reference to a technically illegal double hit to put a ball through the hoop at close range from an angle that would not be possible with a normal shot. The word has since entered into the common lexicon to refer to a cheeky act: an act that, although technically politically incorrect or controversial, is endearing and acceptable. A snaffle is also a tale or a lie and a snaffler is a duplicitous con artist. A snaffle is also a thing that looks like a pair of handcuffs.

As you can see I am still nonplussed.
