As I said before, whether or not she was familiar with the song she should have listened to it a few times and done some research before hearing Paijes' version cos she had to judge and THAT'S HER JOB! She gets paid 1.5 million a year for her role on X factor, blimmin earn it!
Not necessarily. Elton John has a very idiosyncratic style of singing which you either love or hate (I hate). So half expecting the song to be sung in an Elton John style wouldn't necessarily help in judging the merits of an interpretation.  Crocodile Rock is one of those songs that hasn't been covered very often, if at all, so Elton's version remains the undisputed version. In a way, having preconceptions of how a song should be performed introduces bias into judging.  An avid Elton John fan would actually be the worst person to judge an interpretation of Crocodile Rock.

I've got to say when I heard the news, my first thought was not that she might die. Living in Nigeria, I saw a lot of people having Malaria (usually the ones who didn't take the medication), in fact our doctor told us that we all had about 30% of the disease in us without ever becoming the full blown thing. I never heard of anyone dying, as long as they were treated quickly. The reall tragedy is that people make such a fuss about Cheryl, but not the millions that do die because they don't have the cash for either mosquito nets and/or medication. Seeing that she knows what it feels like, it might be a nice gesture to contribute some her millions to people who can't afford to save their lives and before anybody says it, yes she might have done it quietly, but that's not really her style.

,quote:It is estimated that mosquitoes have killed more human beings than all wars, famines and natural disasters combined - more humans than are alive today. 3-6 million people each year die from malaria alone, and up to 100 million are sickened annually. This is just from 1 disease transmitted by mosquitoes.)

unfortunately I can't find the source of this quote but I have read this on more than one occasion.

I think she said she's going to do something about it, but remember about a year before she had Malaria she did climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for that exact thing.

Typical of this forum Basically this thread has been started because Cheryl said 'The song isn't a familiar one to me', probably because like Louis said it's from 1972 She never said she hadn't heard of it at all Typical GaGajoyjoy something out of nothing.

She is not the only one to not be familiar with a song from the show. Simon and Louis have said the exact same thing before.

Cheryl was told it was life threatening - I'd have been pretty upset by that. Give her a break.

I nearly died on my 1st IVF ( I didn't know anyone could die from having IVF but thankfully to the doctors and nurses I didn't) I went on to have 6 more IVF knowing the dangers to me and became very, very ill in most of them...

It's a story to tell which most people love to hear about - I think the Cheryl/Malaria thing is just that.

The thing is Croc, people react to illness in different ways.

Some people are incredibly stoic and just take a deep breath in and get on with it.

Others just can't and yes do go on and on and on...

And I agree it can be incredibly annoying but it is their copying strategy.

We all have different ways of coping.

Now in Cheryl's case, she probably thought being young and pretty and rich made her somewhat invincible. The fact that it didn't and she still got this rotten illness has knocked her for six and to be fair we really don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

Did anyone else feel embarrassed for Cowell choosing Elton John week when Elton stated he thinks the show is rubbish?
It's odd isn't it? Yet whether Elton thinks the show is rubbish or not, I suspect that lots of people on here watch it and I know that advertisers are queuing up to advertise within it. Cowell has to keep picking bland  inoffensive pap though, he has I think already chosen Queen, Abba, Madonna amongst others and will eventually run out of acts which pass the Old Grey Whistle test.
