Mine started at about 3mths and I had to stop working at 4mths....it ain't that rare...there were about 25 women in my SPD sroup alone. My sister has chronic RA so I also understand how painful that can be! But I really think a belt would help you anyway as it relieves the pressure on your pelvis....so would work whether it was SPD or your RA causing the pain. The belt is like a huge, bit of elastic/tubigrip and just supports weight of bump, easing the pressure on your pelvis. If your midwife is really unhelpful, ask to change to another one....they can't refuse you.

That's dreadful!!!
I would be complaining to all and sundry in a VERY loud voice!! This is your health and your baby at risk here!!!

OMG...that is awful. I'm in Suffolk and our midwives are pretty good. Surely, given your history and that of your family, they should be monitoring you more closely....they need a darn good slapping. I had one ectopic pregnancy and one miscarriage between my boys and was scanned every couple of weeks and seen by my midwife every week when I was expecting my youngest. Is there anyway you could go to a different hospital?? I live between two in two different counties and we are given the choice between them. I can't believe that midwives and doctors could be so unconcerned and callous, pregnancy can be stressful enough without people like that 'looking after you'.....

quote:I live in Holmfirth and they shut the maternity unit here years ago so they could move it to Huddersfield which is about 25 minutes away. But now they've decided that it is now a midwife only led unit and as there are no consultant or operating facilities, anyone who gives birth there with complications has to be transferred to Halifax. Which has led so far to the deaths of a few mothers and babies from complications. So because I'm classed as high risk I already have to travel directly to Halifax to give birth, Huddersfield to see the consultant and Holmfirth for the midwife. It's a total mess.

Queenie hon... the only advice I can give you, is if you are wanting to complain.. you need to address your complaint to either the complaints dept or the Chief Executive of the Trust which provides your maternity services.
There is a set procedure that all trusts must follow when they receive such a complaint. The complaint is handed down from the Cheif Execs office... and the dept involved has a set time to respond (usually 10 days).
If its a complaint after an event then often all that you get back is a sorry letter signed by the cheif exec... however, if it is a complaint about an ongoing treatment... you can bet your treatment will suddenly improve...
I have been in depts where an official complaint has come down... and believe me... you do all you can to appease the complainant.
The figures on no. of complaints, resolution of complaint etc HAVE to be reported. And are part of the Trusts CHI inspections. Basically their Trust status can be affected.. and as a result the amount of funding that trust receives.

If you want any more detailed advice.. PM me x

As a woman, I am insanely jealous that you are pregnant *pokes in the eye*
