The 3 kids playing on the coke (I think that must be me in the middle) look rather happy to be doing so which kinda implies that I hadn't learned my lesson
I've no real experience of playing on coke but I love the adverts
You look lovely in the piccie Bunny - although I thought you'd have longer hair

Coke is coal treated to remove some of the toxins which cause smoke. It's much lighter than coal and, as Bunny says, is difficult to light. Once it's lit, it give out lots of heat.
I remember when our area went smokeless, most people bought equal quantities of coke and coal as coal was so much cheaper.
Here endeth today's Northern lesson for softy Southerners.

Well I for one am glad that is all cleared up, I think in essence they are carbon based products, dug up from holes in the ground.
I must say it was very good of the school to put such a tempting means of getting filthy in such easy reach of you
It was good of them, wasnât it?
Coming to think of it the teacher that made me do that shouldâve written an apology to me for not fencing the coke heap off.
I wonât tell you about the sweet I peeled off the floor in the same playground and then ate. I only did it to build up my immune system
I wonât post this in that other thread cos I donât want to embarrass you (but I will anyway) - they are incredibly beautiful...

When I tell my kids in school about measuring the frost on the inside of the bedroom windows in the morning when I was a kid, the look of disbelief on their innocent little faces is a hoot!! They look at me as if I'm a complete fossil.

They just don't know hard do they
When people get cold, what is wrong with just putting more clothes on.
Anyways, it was great, just snuggling under blankets and duvets.
I remember the pictures on the window - they were lovely - I remember kicking piles of Autumn leaves on my way to school as well....all the wonderful colours

Such pretty patterns the old Jack Frost left on the inside of our windows......and to sit on the loo seat in the morning made you feel alive
It certainly did

I hand-washed everything in the bath at my Dadâs â no washing machine or nuffin

Not as posh as you might think â it was for a size 3 shoe and the lid got nicked by some poorer people who lived near the grid.

Long may you continue!
I was lucky where I grew up - although I only realise it now. Now that I've gotten to be the age I am I wish I was more in touch with the nature around me.
tut, anyone would think you lived in the dark ages.
We souffern softies, had colour telly n everyfink, we even had an inside loo that had a seat, and a tin bath for in front of the fire.

A coke-themed incident from my impoverished (more impoverished than Syd's) childhood...
My first bike was second hand - bought of a neighbour. I was riding it to the end of the street and some members of a horror family spotted me and recognised the bike - and an older lad threw some coke in my face because he said I'd nicked the bike
