It happened to me when I was 40
I lost a ÂĢ200K a year job at the same time as the Stock market crash in about 1988
I had no money no car and no where to go
I couldn't get a job becuase I was too old and eventually re-trained started my own business and remained a sole trader
I just didn't want to get involved with people again in terms of staff
I didn't want to be important or high flying and I have felt much better over the last 20 + years

I was made redundant last year and fate played a big part in changing the direction of my career Nod I was in the right place at the right time. It's all about keeping your eyes open and catching that opportunity when it shows itself. It maybe something you would never have gone for ordinarily. As in my case there was no way I thought I'd be good enough to become a service technician but against all the odds and the other applicants I got the job and I love it Big Grin

Do you have a problem with driving, Angel? I only ask, as I passed my test years ago, and still can't do it.

So do you write children's stories yourself? I've heard that is a really hard market to get into.

I have tried a couple of things. It's not an industry you go into to get rich, but i love books so much as long as i had enough to live on i would be happy. When i win the lottery i am going to start my own publishing company

Fabi, I only had a dozen lessons a few years ago....I was very nervous and my instructor was a git and trying to push me to do stuff I wasnt ready for (like turning left Laugh)....I packed it in and never went back to it, and I really really need to but I am too nervous Frowner (and skint)

Aww, Angel, all you need is a really good instructor. Hug I went through every instructor in town, and passed my test by a fluke. Blush Then my dad insisted on coming out in the car with me, and he nearly had a heart attack and wouldn't let me go out on my own. Kind of off-putting...

Get the money together for hypnotherapy first Angel and it'll be a scoosh! Smiler
Or have a look at Gary Craig's EFT website.. helps take the edge off the fear!

the technique does, not the website.. Smiler

I know! mad, paying all that cash for all that stress.. best get a tame mate with nerves of steel and an old scrapper of a car to show you the basics, then just take a few paid lessons before your test.

The really big thing I would change would be to stop my young, beloved first husband driving on a snowy and icy January night - and thus getting killed in an accident.

Everything would have been different then.
My baby daughter wouldn't have grown up without a daddy.
We would have moved into the house in the south of England we were having built .....
I would have had other children ...

All my life would have been totally different if only I had said "Please don't drive tonight.."

I have had a really good time actually
The money has always been rubbish by comparison but it's astonishing how much goes in tax (to MPS) Shake Head and gets frittered on trying to make life better becuase you work so hard
I work from home, have lovely patients from all walks of life and lots of different countries. I don't need holidays and I can work the hours I like when I like and it is no ones elses business but mine
I am due to retire in September but will carry on doing a few hours just for the entertainment value

The worst thing about driving is other idiots on the road (lots in London unlicenced and insured) but the most unlikely people learn to drive and pass tests so you shouldn't have a problem Practice is important because you gain confidence. The test is easy (possibly the reason why we have so many irresponsible people on the roads) Roll Eyes

Hi Angel.Smiler
Well, it's only a suggestion but I think maybe you would be best with an Automatic Car, my O/H has been driving all her life as only has a license for an Automatic, easy peasy tom pass the test, only 2 peddles, stop and go and with the Auto gearbox you only need forward and reverse, you can't miss a gear, you can't rill back, I would never buy a Manual gearbox myself and I've driven over 1 million miles, even my Landrover is Auto, I wish there were no Manuals on the road for a start.

Maybe if you look at stuff you would like to do it would put you on the road to where you want to be Big Grin
It doesn't hurt to do a bit of research to see what's out there and where the stable industries are Nod
