First year I did my garden I was really really skint....

So...   I dug out some flower beds, and bought 7 packets of Sunflower seeds and some garden canes.   I bought big single headed sunflowers, dwarf sunflowers, red sunflowers, multi headed sunflowers, and white sunflowers...

I planted all the seeds..    watered regularly...    went on midnight excursions to collect & relocate all the slugs & snails trying to eat my sunflower seedlings (over the fence )....    staked them to canes as (the bigger ones) grew taller...

mid summer my garden looked amazing!!   Twas like teletubby land!     I had 150 sunflowers

So anyway, you have a bit of decking at one end of the 20 feet with a bit of patio furniture on it. You would want to till the soil first then cover it with a weed sppressing mebrane.

As the width is only 8 feet, grass might be a bit impractical unless you want to go for artificial stuff, but that's a bit expensive I believe. So maybe some 3 X 2 flagstones, say 3 in length and 2 wide running length ways along the 20 feet from the edge of the decking with flower beds on each side running also from the decking for the length of the flagged area. There would only be a (relatively) small area left at the other end of the 20 feet from the decking and youcould install a small water feature there. A self contained unit shouldn't need a lot of maintainance.

What do you think? Of course it won't be as cheap as just grassing the whole area, but should look a lot more pretty.

its outside of back gate

it runs in front of garage, gate & fencing thats the long bit

then it gives about 8ft width before it hits the gullyway thing

the decking should cover half of it

so yeah, a good idea would to put that sheeting plastic stuff down after ive cut weeds & throw stones on that bit

some good ideas

thanks

now im off to watch panorama & probably throw things at the telly
