Flowers are definitely part of the plan, she loves them. I can take her to her favourite garden centre for lunch, but what on earth can I buy as a gift or do to make it special..?
Any ideas?!

I find older people appreciate photos, maybe make her a nice photo album by collecting photos from all the family (scanning and returning if necessary) That way she may not have seen them before.
Sweet - my mate's mum was 80 last month, and following on jen's photo theme... she got lots of old photos, of her Mum and Dad when they were young, their wedding photos, her and her brother as kids, their kids as kids and all through the years and she found a shop that created a photo album from them (they did all the scanning etc - took old snaps and modern ones from emails etc) It was great - the first page was her Mum as a baby and the last one was a bang up to date one of all the family - with their life history in between. She loved it.
An afternoon tea party for family and close friends? There is some lovely vintage bunting on e bay - some nice tea, scones, sandwiches and some old tunes on the stereo?

Maybe the area she comes from, find a book about the history of it, or a book of old photos etc. Something nostalgic that she would remember from when she was a girl?
Garden centre idea lunch sounds good though
what about an engraved crystal flower or bud vase or rose bowl ?
or glass if she enjoys a little tipple
Sticking with the photo theme an old pic of your mil in her prime/ or her favourite photo - blown up into a canvas print.

They seem popular at the minute, my aunt did a really nice one for my uncle's 50th and friends of my mam got one done for them for their golden wedding anniversary. The only problem is getting all the photos - if you have them all ready to go Summer then it can be done really quickly
I did one for my parents for Christmas, it covered them from their wedding day until their 50th Wedding anniversary earlier this year, I did it all online, it was very clever because the site automatically put them in date order, even though most of them had been scanned at one time or another.
Which website did you use Cinds? I'm doing one for my project 365 (going to be a hooj book!) and I was recommended blurb http://www.blurb.co.uk/booksmart and it looks really good - nice layouts and I can customise them completely too
My Dad has a prayer a day, tear off note reminder type thingy.
As well as the photo's what about a music CD say from her 18th to her 21st which would have been 1959 to 53, you could do a compilation of no1's....
