I refuse to be a test for Apple and I refuse to be a sheep running out to buy an Apple product because I have more money than sense (I have no money but that's besides the point) 

besides they'll bring a new version out next year so there's no rush to get it unless you're one of those that has to have everything Apple makes right here, right now!

It's a virtual hard drive, there's nothing to buy Mind you, from a quick google it looks like you only get 5GB of free storage

For me, the main question would be how secure is iCloud - I wouldn't want hackers to break in and find out confidential information. I know it's different but just think about the attacks on Sony in recent weeks, with millions of users potentially having their details stolen.

As I am an accountant dealing with people's tax, it would be disastrous if those details were hacked into. For that reason, although my antivirus software provider also has an online backup facility, I do not use it.

I am an Apple groupie, so I will wait until my son (also a groupie) explains it all too me and tells me whether I am going to join or not Mind you, knowing me , I will still back up to my external hard drive too

I wouldn't put my personal files in the hands of a faceless corp like Apple. I wouldn't voluntarily transfer my personal data outside of the country and subject to weaker data protection laws. I really don't see the point. 

I've never had a hard disk fail on me and I back up everything to drives which are under my control and with a lot more capacity than 5gb.  The price of 5gb of storage is under £20.  The only benefit that I can see with cloud storage is if your house burns down or gets burgled.

Across all your [Apple] devices?  Their much maligned iTunes software does that (often with hitches) and how many [Apple] devices do most people have - or want?  It's not like anyone's life would come to a crashing halt if a few music files were on their iPod, iPad, iTouch, iMac but not their iPhone.
