It would seem I am somewhat behind on the news and missed the sad news of the passing of Ian Holm. I also noticed the snooker player Willie Thorne has passed away too.

Ian Holm is a regular on my screen as Ash in Alien. One of my all time favourite films. Although many would now recognise him from Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit films (films I have yet to see). Not forgetting Chariots of Fire.

Most years I see Willie Thorne out and about during the World Snooker Championships. 66. No age these days.

It's possible that I saw Ian Holm on stage as Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream many many years ago when I was on a junior school outing to Stratford upon Avon. An actor I feel as if I've known all my life and that is the most likely reason. It was produced by Peter Hall and had Charles Laughton as Bottom. A version of that was made for American television at the time. A tiny extract from that: (at the end of the clip that's Ian Holm cavorting with Laughton as they go off stage.

Saw a piece with Ian Holm, Ian Richardson and David Warner photo'd outside the Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford 1953 I think. They were pals.

Funny how they went on to transverse each other in their careers.

RIP. The Bofors Gun. Classic drama before David Mamet arrived. Beats Alien.

And RIP Willie.
