The more I think about it (and it's driven me mad all day!!) I think maybe you're right Ells. I wondered if it could be skin head - being a hairdressers - but then a skinhead wouldn't go to a rockabilly hairdressers!!

Aren't rockabillys the Billy Idol types with the DA haircuts?

I've just googled it and it seems a rockabilly hairstyle is something along these lines

so a 'Quiff' style for the men.

Hmmm now I'm thinking along the lines of 'fringe'  as in quiffed fringes, fringed clothing and fringing all around.   I need to stay out of this thread!

Ells

i'm loving all the answers im sure they said its just a one word answer its so annoying isnt it i would give you the number but its in ireland haa

now reading up on rocakabilly hairdressers its seems that its not just people who have those sort of hairstyles but they are taking over for very modern styles at cheaper prices than the likes of Toni and guy

keep the guesses coming and i will call back in with the best one next week there is a cash win on this so obv if someone picks the winning question i will 50 pounds to the charity of your choice cant be fairer than that

Shizzlex

in previous competitions it has been one word and the clues have referred to the actual word not syllables

so im thinking Brand or poseur could be good contenders i'll listen for more clues monday morning and tues and  come back online tuesday i dont think anyone else will get it as its been going on for at least a month if not more

Shizzlex

Strutsie? Just seen this in the Urban Dictionary

Strutsie2 thumbs up

A person with a cocky attitude, or just someone who has a really long neck. Reminding of an ostrich. Struts is the norwegian word for ostrich, and therefore "strutsie". The word fits if you get the feeling a person thinks they are so much better than everybody else, and likes to believe everybody do - or should -look up to them.
- Strutsie is the person who shuts the door in your face, instead of opening it for you.

Think I'm losing the plot a bit TBH

the clues are - this type of men wears skinny jeans and can be vain, this thing is often seen on the catwalk, its all around us ???

Going by the above - and other things you've said - the word you're looking for can be used to describe a person AND also to refer to an object.

The use of the phrase 'can be vain' would suggest that the type of person is often vain, but that vanity is not necessarily present. It would also suggest to me that the sought after word does not actually mean or indicate vanity.

Is this a localised competition or national? If localised then it could be idiomatic.

I think the answer needs to fit in that sentence.. i think my idea of bohemian would fit

'I often go to a rockabilly type hairdressers it's more for the BOHEMIAN type fella

bohemian noun 1 someone, especially a writer or an artist, who lives in a way which ignores standard customs and rules of social behaviour. 2 (Bohemian) a person from Bohemia, formerly a kingdom, later a part of the Czech Republic. adj 1 ignoring standard customs and rules of social behaviour. 2 (Bohemian) from or belonging or relating to Bohemia. bohemianism

thats my take on it but i'm dying to know the answer

That's why I thought about Fashionable, it's all around us in many forms.  Dunno.

@Ells.  I have contacted 2 friends who are good at cryptic puzzles so I'm heading down that road as well.

Tayto.
