I'm getting my God Daughter a personalised candle as part of her xmas gift.

They're lovely they have this pretty butterfly (she loves sparkly butterflies)

at the front but at the back I wanted to get a poem printed on it but all the ones I find online are a bit biblical or relate to newborn god daughters.

So far I've come up with this:

If I one day have a daughter
I hope she's just like you
Beautiful, caring, special
Amazing through and through

Is that a bit corny/cheesey???  She's 12, she's my closest sisters only child and she was my only niece for nearly 8 years so she's very special to me.  And she's beautiful, smart, funny, cheeky, sensitive, caring and every other nice thing you can imagine.  So I need help with another verse or two if you can think of any that would help

Awww Ells, it's not corny or cheesey, it's lovely!!! And it's going to mean so much more because YOU wrote it!

Now where can I buy one?

I have a niece of a similar age, again the only daughter of my closest sister. I used to look after her full time when she was a toddler while her mum worked.....and we're very very close.

My poem will probably be rude though.

I'm getting it from a girl in my area who makes them.  She's on facebook, not sure if she posts them though coz I know she will either deliver mine or I will collect it.

I could ask her though?

Oh. I'd better not make it too rude then

I think they're a really lovely idea, so it would be great if she did post..... does she do it as a business, or is it just a hobby?

Something like:-

Your manner is so pleasant,

Your smile can vie the sun.

If you weren't my sister's daughter,

I'd love to be your mum.

And that's from someone who is freaked out by butterflies!

I love butterflies, mostly because my mum always said that when she died she'd come back as one, so every time I see one I think of her and lo and behold, what did we see landing on her coffin, in October no less,  but a blooming butterfly! I have a 'store' of butterfly quotes, but I'm afraid they're all a bit 'grown up' for a 12 year old child. Possibly my favourite is: Happiness is like a butterfly, which, when pursued is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you...That's not any help is it

Oh I like that

Hell no, (sorry Fluffs!) but I find that really freaky and I don't think her mum would be best pleased either

Oh, I know what you mean Supes.  Maybe I could reword it to mean I'm lucky my sister IS her mum.

Me too. Especially the the first three lines! I love those!

Maybe something like...

You're sweet, you're kind,

and you bring to mind,

a sparkling butterfly.

Your beautiful wings,

are destined for wondrous things,

as the precious years go by.

Or is that too soppy?

Sounds a tad more like Ells, (but maybe unnecessary?) No-one is closer to my niece than I am, but yer mum is yer mum, she bore you in her womb.... I'd stick with the butterfly theme!

Very much so Supes  Was doing xmas shopping the other day and got so excited looking at the dolls houses and barbie dolls and all the pretty stuff I could buy a wee girl.

My boys are ace...but when are they ever gonna let me paint their nails and teach them how to fix their hair?!

My sister is a neat freak so she might burst when she sees the messy stuff but she always says my niece loves that I go against the rules and buy her stuff her ma doesn't allow.......I just let her keep it at my house if my sister is really freaking out about it.

Ells
