It's when you think of your hero parent(s) and grandparents.
Your icons.
There was no nonsense we can easily self indulge in today.
Different world.
Measure up might be the term.
Maybe its a good thing it's different now. For better or worse we are moving on
The older generations are where it's at Moons.
When their stories and morals are gone we are moving into chaos imo.

But the idea is not to forget their stories and their morals. They will live on in us as long as we want them too.
Maybe.
If you lose your taste for foolishness - you've lost your zest for life
Cultures still being diluted.

Their generation doesn't necessarily paint a picture of a better moral world donks. The wars and warmongering, the prejudice and cruelty do not leave a better life lesson than we have perhaps begun to learn.

I wish I hadn't grown up
You reckon you did Baz?
Isn't it a bit like childhood here? [you can be as daft as a brush]. No wonder we're called Gaga.
They do in mine and probably guaranteed in yours Xochs
When no one is left to recall WW2 it'll be game on.
been thinking about that lately.. how things have changed . When I was growing up, it was like communal houses ! all the neighbours were in and out of each others houses, folk looked after each other .. I hardly know the folk in my street now apart from immediate neighbours .

This again! The good old days of institutionalised and constitutional sexism, racism and homophobia. When no one dared to speak of or report paedophiles and women deserved a good slap for not knowing their place. But at least they all said please and thank you and you could leave your door unlocked at night.
Completely missed the point.
Still...big up for Nijinsky.

I think we pretty much still have all of that though ( bar the last bit ), though it's less overt and is changing . What I took from velvet's post was that the community / collective / looking out for each other thing is getting lost .

I didn't get that, to be honest. But I don't think it has been lost no matter what effects social and economic policy has had post-war. I feel like I'm a lesser or greater part of several communities. There's my professional working community, the community attached to all my kids' different schools, my immediate neighbourhood (where I am on first name terms with many), my church community (if I went more often) and my extended blood family.
Then there's this place for people who feel more comfortable engaging with the world from behind a screen. Lots of communities if you chose to get involved.
