Joe, that's how I feel, we seem to get so little of it these days, I want to enjoy every moment of it. 

The heat is driving me nuts. My nose specs get really sweaty and that makes my whole face awful. I've tried having the backdoor open all day to get some through breaze, but it's only let the heat in. My quack tells me I should be in the south of France.

ditto - make hay while the sun shines. Spent a few hours in the garden this afternoon and am hopeful for another good one tomorrow as I'm free(ish) all day.

Any tips on how to stay cool when trying to sleep in this weather?

I already sleep in my birthday suit and have a window (or two) open.

Would a hot water bottle filled with ice cubes work?

Can't help there.... nothing, but nothing stops me sleeping.   I leave my bedroom curtains shut all day when it's hot though because the room gets the sun all day - then I open them at night to let the cooler air in (and I sleep the way you do!)    Staying up too late watching BB usually helps too... out like a light when I drag myself to bed!

I do that too. Got them ajar now with windows wide open and a slight breeze negotiates it's way around my home.

I get off to sleep ok but then I find I wake after a few hours all hot and bothered. 

So you sleep in the buff, with your curtains open. Better be careful the neighbours don't get an eyeful.

I'm in an upstairs flat, yogi!  Although I bet I look a picture crawling along the floor to shut them in the morning before i stand up  

In my case I am in the top flat of a two storey building, my bedroom not being overlooked by anyone, well unless you count the odd airliner 

I've got a mental picture now.

No, not a fan. A fan just works with the temperature of the air that you already have. The cooling impression is created by the speed of the air wafting across your skin.

What you want is an air cooler. It's similar to a fan but works by blowing the air over a container of chilled water, thus actually reducing the temperature of the air it is blowing over you.

 Could do with that here, it's starting to get very 'muggy' won't complain if we get a nice thunderstorm - I loves them.

Went shopping/lunch with sis in law.

Left the car for a few hours IN THE SUN.

We had to wait 5 mins with full air con blasting before we could get back in the bloomin' thing.  41 degrees

Am I right in thinking you are down Nottingham way?

If so, I'm hoping it makes it's way up to Sheffield soon - I have all the windows open so if there is a sudden drop in temperature then I will know.
