So , 200 British tourists do a bunk from a Swiss ski resort because they didn’t agree with having to isolate and miss their holidays ....fgs , what is the matter with people !!

They should put them on a boat, offshore and make them stay there for their two weeks quarantine then find them £1000 each for possibly putting the rest of us at risk

I agree Moonie .....the pure selfishness is astounding ! They decided to go to Switzerland , and then think that the country’s rules don’t apply to them ! It beggars belief !

Although I think that taking hols abroad is a selfish thing to do in general....they went. However Switzerland backdated their rules so a lot of people from all over Europe were already there. Switzerland is saying that only a small number broke these rules, the rest were accounted for as they left legally under repatriation agreements. This does not excuse the fact that UK residents were told that travel was only allowed for essential reasons....a skiing holiday certainly isn't that

As a lot of people only care (half-heartedly) about their own wee patch, let alone their country, is it any surprise that they thumb their noses at another country altogether?

As has now been seen in Australia too!

Lord. Add him and Dick up and get four. I've listened to her on the radio. Doesn't want to police it.

As and when this is all over will we be A LOT better than if the virus had been left to run rampant after all! I mean:- Slow to lockdown initially, not stopping travel, wishy-washy rules and guidelines, not being tough on breaches, etc, etc, etc.

There's nothing to add Damsel. I'd throw in the title

Tier 4. 😷😱😢😢😢😷

Me too.

TBH, it's been on the cards since the last lockdown, IMO, and for that reason I've only been out for essential shopping for the last fortnight. I therefore don't see the new tiering affecting me too much in the short term, but work in the New Year might be slightly different. Before Christmas, I was travelling into work 2 days a week and working from home the rest, and in theory I could still return to the office next week ( I - somewhat bizarrely - count as an "essential worker") , but I suspect that might be put on hold now...

I appreciate that others will find Tier 4 a more demanding change, though,  so a big to everyone in that position, and stay safe.

It makes no real difference to me ....I’ve been no further than the garden since August ....but like Eugene my thoughts go out to those who are really affected by it But hopefully the end is at least in sight now

Was in tier two until lockdown,  don’t go far and always did safely.

Christmas may only be “one day” but it was something I was really looking forward to and is now the only Christmas in nearly 40 years that I have woken up Christmas morning with no children or grandchildren and that was hard to take

I agree to a certain extent with 'let's give the latest measures time to work', but during that waiting time you should be formulating plans for what to do if the measures don't work. or don't work well enough, so that new measures can be implemented as soon as it's seen that the current measures aren't enough. However, Boris gives every indication of only formulating a new 'plan' if as and when the current measures are seen to be not working, hence all this 'new measures will be coming SOON' malarky!

Scotlands new restrictions come into force from midnight. So that gives Boris a few hours to cobble something similar together and still apply them from midnight too. And he can also pretend he's being decisive 'cos his announcement will only have 4 hours before implementation, whilst Scotland's (lazy policy, )  gave about 10 hours notice.

Why wait until 8.00pm, unless his chums need to plan escapes etc,  why not 5/6/7?  watching Corrie first ?

The assumption appears to be that there will be a number of planning meetings before then - particularly regarding schools. Arlene Foster has already confirmed that there will be a "Four Nations" phone meeting at 5pm, followed by a meeting of Stormont executive ministers at 6pm.

I still haven't seen any notice on online TV guides re coverage of Johnson's address to the nation at 8pm, however the BBC News channel has just confirmed that both it and BBC1 will broadcast a news special, starting from 7.35pm.

...And when Kier Starmer points out that he's been calling for a new lockdown and school closures for ages, Johnson will still respond with some bluster about "Captain Hindsight"...

How can’t it be “hindsight” when BoJo hasn’t even announced what he is going to do yet?

So, total lockdown for 6 weeks then ....

At the very least, Baz...

From what I gathered from listening to commentators after Johnson's speech, this lockdown is as much linked to the vaccination programme as it is to the new variant, and as a result it's probably going to go into March.

I seriously doubt that Scotland will come out of lockdown at the end of the month either...

PM acted 'decisively' on England lockdown - Sunak

Haha, told you!

I know those words are supposedly Sunak's, but there is no real difference!

Ditto EFFT Even when I have had a jab I don’t intend going out without a mask, at least not until I know it’s worked ! In fact the most depressing thing about all this is , that I can’t imagine ever feeling safe and relaxed in crowds again .

I was surmising something similar myself, the other day. How would I feel travelling all the way to Poole, unless it's by private car?

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

The Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation, which advises UK health departments and recommended the new strategy, said data showed that one dose of the Pfizer vaccine would be "90% effective".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But no-one can tell us that the effectiveness won't fall away after 21 days if the 2nd dose isn't given for a further several weeks. This government is prepared to waste several millions of doses of vaccine and possibly kill thousands more people on a whim!

There is a petition on Change.ORG to try and get the government to follow the original timescale. The only one that we know will work because the designers of the vaccine designed and tested it for that......and that only!

I recommed that everyone signs it. I have!
