The news has said the expected lockdown is expected to start NEXT THURSDAY. Thursday!!!! The situation is really dire and yet the new rules are to be delayed for another 5 DAYS!!!!!

The main reason they're having to consider a 4-week lockdown is because they hesitated too long over introducing a 2-week "Circuit-Breaker" a week or two ago.

I've said this before, but the mathematics behind COVID is brutally simple: an exponential growth rate means that the longer you delay a lockdown, the higher the infection rate you have to recover from, and therefore the longer you will have to maintain that lockdown for...

Very glad the furlough scheme has been extended.

TBH, they really didn't have any choice.

It was already going to be a lot harder to get the public on board and fully abide by the the lockdown rules for a second time as it is: to expect millions of people to follow the rules again while staring unemployment and poverty in the face mere weeks before Christmas was never going to wash...

...

Hands up who can guess what I noticed today.

?

Yes, you guessed it, popping into Sainsbury's for some food for work next week and to pick up some toilet roll (my last purchase in April this year is now down to 2 rolls). The shelves of toilet roll had been almost stripped bare. !!!!!

Clearly, idiots have not learnt from last time that you don't need to panic buy. Now I have calculated that with the remaining rolls I have and the new 9 roll pack I can go through until March/April. How much do these people use FFS.

But I agree .... having said that I saw this coming so I’ve been stocking up over the last couple of months

Still got some toilet rolls and kitchen rolls from the spring, but have been buying the odd pack every so often just in case, as I, like Baz, saw this coming a mile off. And although I'm in Scotland, not England, panic buying/mass hoarding does not recognize borders!

Too true

rimark has said customer demand for pyjamas has grown but sales of men's suits have dropped, reflecting a shift in lifestyle since the pandemic.

I can understand (a bit) why we are buying fewer suits, but why are we buying so many more pyjamas? Did so many people not have pyjamas before? And if you didn't have pyjamas before, why are you suddenly needing them now? It's never warm enough to sit around in pyjamas (not a good look anyway), unless there's a heatwave.

Manchester Uni fenced off...wtf, no wonder they have torn it down. These young people didn't ask to be moved all over the country in a pandemic...they should not be punished because the government wanted their fees and rent out of them I'm appalled they fenced some dorms in and didn't even tell them!

Apparently people in Denmark gave Covid to mink (on mink farms) which, in turn ,has mutated into, at least, 3 different strains that have now been transferred back to humans. The government have closed our borders to Denmark, but any UK citizen who is currently in Denmark can return, but MUST quarantine for 14 days along with the whole of their household/support bubble.

Can we be assured that this will be complied with 100%, or are we now going to have 4 strains rampaging around the country. with the same (ludicrous) assumptions being made about these new strains, as are being made about the initial virus?

What Lockdown?

crossed the Thames today by car over Hampton Court Bridge and can honestly say that I have never seen so many people in the area, plus hundreds of cyclists thinking they're in the Tour de France . Big queues of people at the coffee shops with no social distancing ....flipping ridiculous

Apparently the Unis are not included in the education system nowadays, hence the fees they charge go directly to them and they aren't going to lose money whatever the cost to the students. Very unfair on the poor students who are not getting what they have paid huge amounts for...nor can they go home and work online from there.

Yes, the time is rather anti-social.

It's odd - they were too busy up to 5pm ... then empty (I could have any time from 5pm-8pm)

The testing station is off a busy motorway which often gets jammed. So i took a later time which worked out well. No results yet
