Even if the Gov gets it wrong (and they are getting it wrong a lot) doesn't mean you have to do it. I would never, never "Eat out to help out". From what i learned of COVID it was a disaster to introduce it. I am stunned people choose not to err on the side of caution. If unsure - don't do it

That's because, as we see time and time again, a vast proportion of the public DO NOT have this common sense that Boris so lovingly espouses!

Neither would I, but that's your Tory government for you. It's all about the money, money, money and hiving it off to their mates.

Let's face it though: as we've seen time and tme again this year, Boris doesn't actually have the common sense he continually espouses...

Remember: this is the bloke who boasted about shaking hands with COVID victims in hospital...

And why are we all lousing it up? because of some of the most stupid decisions I've ever known a government to make.  No one knows what to do for the best any more so now a lot of people are saying stuff it!

I think EFFTand Renton have explained it far more eloquently than I could Sprout , but I will just say this ,  the government might not have got it right ....in fact they’ve got a lot of things wrong .....but strikes me that no matter what they had done some people would have criticised . And  as for those who are saying stuff it and going their own way, well it’s the likes of those who are helping get us in the mess we are in ....so I stand by my assertion that it’s politicians AND the selfish, inconsiderate sections of society who are lousing  things up .

And that was a lie, because it was not a hospital with an active Covid ward!

Because we're not getting any proper leadership.

Are people children that they can’t work things out for themselves ? At the very basic level Hands, Face , Space aren’t difficult to understand , surely ! If people only obeyed those simple rules it would make quite a bit of difference ....but no, selfish morons can’t even do that !

Yes they can work things out for themselves but for all the mixed messages that's been given off, that's why they are getting sick of it and ignoring.

Oh well that’s ok then ....seriously Sprout , I can’t believe you actually think it’s ok for people to  use the excuse of mixed messages to do their own thing .....and let’s face it the basic message .....wash your hands , and stay a safe distance away from others hasn’t changed since the start of the first lockdown .....so no mixed message about that .

Tiers? areas? can I? can't I?

I can see both arguments tbh - the Gov haven't helped. It should never have been 'advice' - it should have been laws and rules.

And with this virus the issues are fluid at best and rules will change week to week. People don't like constant change, rules this week not the next. Sadly the public have definitely taken liberties.

Yes, but I repeat ....the basic message hasn’t changed .....and if people simply obeyed that it would help........ however  it seems that some people don’t think it applies to them ....of course they will be the first to complain when we go back into full lockdown . I don’t know what the answer is Sprout I just know there seem to be a load of morons around who seem determined to carry on as if the pandemic isn’t happening !

Yes....I presume the fact  it has been moved back means that  maybe there has been some dissent within cabinet Eugene ....although given what the scientists are saying they would be stupid not to lockdown ....in fact they should have done it earlier !

I think you're right there, Baz. I was just about to post about the 4pm conference, when they announced the 5pm switch, and the fact that a "lockdown-skeptic" MP ( ) had just been seen entering No. 10...

BBC1 are covering the conference live - programme starts 4.30pm.

Thought so Eugene ....but hopefully sense will prevail ......health v economy or personal liberties is a no brainer for me !

Baz

The news has said the expected lockdown is expected to start NEXT THURSDAY. Thursday!!!! The situation is really dire and yet the new rules are to be delayed for another 5 DAYS!!!!!

My thoughts exactly EFFT ......but I guess maybe it’s to give people , businesses , etc time to organise

Baz

I can understand the idea of giving a bit of notice, but 5 days? And given that we've already been through this, it shouldn't be so difficult to re-instate the practices.

I agree EFFT ....I was just playing devils advocate

Yes, but OFFICIALLY it's not happening until the PM says so.

People would have carried on ignoring it,they'll just do the same whatever the rules are, they are not enforced strongly enough and won't be this time either
