I actually made a mistake, Lancashire has nearly 1 and a half million less than Manchester, so if that was the reckoning, Manchester should have received 88, Burnham asked for 65 for the bare minimum.

Lancashire population in 2020  1,498,300

The latest available data, for 2019, shows it was 2,835,686. Manchester

Hi Dameee

According to news reports Burnham was offered 60 million. He said he would come down from 75 million to 65 million. Now they are only going to get 22 million.

I guess if what I said is wrong someone will put me right

so sorry Moonie, I replied to Baz instead of you

You're absolutley spot on Moonie, but it's not enough . They offered Lancaster 40 million and told them to take it or get nothing. Cities need enough to make sure families have food and heating through winter...even a lot of Tories are disgusted. It's no way to govern, that isn't governing it's a Cummings dictatorship.

So now they are happy to take the offer back and have 22 million which won't even touch the sides of this lockdown, you have to remember Manchester have had 11 weeks of tier two with hardly any help.

How should it be worked out, though?

Purely on head count of population, or maybe on number of businesses and their costs, or...........?????

Cannot be just head count,  type of business? Child tax credits? Pupils on school meals ( or anything that highlights low wage earners)

Sunak has just said instead of workers having to work one third of their hours they'll only have to work one day a week. Reported  information said one fifth of their hours. One day a week and one fifth of their hours IS NOT the same thing for all workers.

So, is it any wonder that people/businesses/work places are constantly clamouring for clarity?

It's all very well talking about measures to get the virus BACK under control. But we had it pretty much under control, so why was it allowed to get out of control again, even if it's not as badly out of control as it was initially?

RUGBY: 12 players, yes 12, out of a squad of 23 (just over half the squad) have been chucked out of the squad because they breached Covid rules. Potentially endangering the whole squad, their hotel, their opponents and everyone else in the hotel just because they fancied a 'London Restaurant' meal. !!!!!!

What is wrong with these people? And Boris bangs on about relying on people's common sense. What common sense?

They could also have just destroyed their own careers.

We (Here in South Yorkshire) are in Tier 3, that would Tier 2.6 in Scotland and Tier 1.8 in Wales and somewhere between Tier 1.1 and 1.7 in Ireland. Yes, I'm taking the p1ss out of the 2-Tier system.

Tonight I have had a walk round town at 7-7:30. To observe the people. By a large margin, the youngsters, who clearly came out early  have no inhibition when it comes to C-19 rules., They are in large groups, they don't observe distancing rules when you pass by them on paths, they may be three abreast, but don't make space.

If this was extrapolated across the UK, it would seem to me the youngsters are one of the big problems, and they need to get with the programme pretty damn quick or pubs will be shut for a long time to come.

I see that that rugby match has been called off/postpone because of those idiots, who confess to be truely sorry.

If there is a need to be 'truely sorry for something you have done, then that means that (in most cases) you are fully aware that you shouldn't be doing it WHILST you ARE doing it!

Rescue/funding packages. Under current financial rules if England gets 'X' to spend then Scotland and the other devolved administrations get a percentage of 'X'. So earlier this week Sunak announces the latest financial package and sure enough Scotland gets the associated percentage. Now Sunak has revised the package to X+, but from what I've heard, Scotland (I don't know about the others) has been told that it's not getting any more than the original percentage of X not X+. So how can the leader of the Tories in Scotland stand there and say that Scotland 'is getting it's fair share'?

TBH: much as I admire the Baa-Baas, and much as I understand the need for the England squad to have a "warm-up" prior to up-coming SIx Nation games, this was always a receipe for disaster. The Barbarians is an invitational team - by definition it's created by throwing together players from all over the globe at short notice. It also has a reputation for being as much - if not more - of a social club as it is a sports team. Part of the reason players take part is just so they can go out for nice, well-lubricated, meals with their teammates. Yes, they behaved like numpties, but this really should have been foreseen.

In other news: I'm watching Newsnight on BBC2, and they've just announced that they wanted to interview Marcus Rashford live, but he couldn't take part because "he's got a match tomorrow, and therefore has to go to bed early". As always, a crisis serves as a test of character...

In other, other news: this morning, my online turf-accountants had Marcus Rashford as 10/11 odds-on favourite to win "Sports Personality of the Year" for 2020. He's now 1/2 odds-on favourite...

Communities across the country are stepping up to the plate to provide free school meals to children after a campaign by Marcus Rashford.

It comes after a motion to extend free school meals over holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it's more important/worthy to buoy up pubs and restaurants than to ensure that kids don't starve!

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Tory MP's have taken a hammering for voting down vulnerable kids free holiday meals. Although, MP's get second home allowance, telephone bills paid, £26 a day meal allowance in already subsidised restaurants

Excuses I have heard...we don't want children dependant on free handouts....ok, let them starve Although MP's live their life on handouts, only they label them expenses.

They can exchange they vouchers for drugs...utter tosh!

They can exchange their food parcels for drugs...I'd like to see anyone rock up to a supplier and say, 'I have two tins of beans, some pasta and an out of date bag of Monster Munch, can I score'

Swinging bricks for hearts, no compassion, no thoughts but for the better off in society. Only thing is if there was no working class, then they wouldn't be the better off.

Over on the Independent commentators are calling the Tories "scum", over on the Mail they're - as usual - banging on about all 'poor' families having iPhones, 60" TVs and designer trainers and "If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em!".  They take particular pleasure and a sense of moral superiority in saying these things.  So it seems nothing changes with that hateful demographic despite the government shelling out billions of taxpayers' funds in contracts with their incompetent cronies and donors.

People can call the Tories, but they wouldn't get elected time after time if there wasn't a huge demographic of working-class people who absolutely hate the poorest of the working class.   The Tory working class are what's wrong with this country, the Tories are just their fair democratic representation.

Had to go out today - car MOT

Terrifying and interesting 1 mile walk home - you wouldn't know there was a pandemic afoot. Neighbour got painter n decorators in. Another having skirting board cut to size in their front garden. Never seen so many workmen/DIY businesses at people's houses.

No one wearing a mask at the MOT centre - passed three people in the street, none wearing a mask.

If you can catch the flu just by walking passed someone then why not COVID? Masks should be law outside of your house.

Why is politics ruling over a medical emergency?

Why is a MP allowed to ignore medical advice from SAGE?

Not surprised some are ignoring the rules - probably also saying they didn't vote Tory so why listen to them = 40,000 deaths

I would respect BoJo more if he said "This is not political - it's medical guidance" we may not be in this mess

I’ve said it before , and I’ll say it again .....we need a countrywide lockdown .....and even some of the scientists are calling for it now . I was listening to a programme on the radio this morning ....interviewing students .....and I was really shocked at how lax everything was

TWO interviews that shocked me - one from Manchester where the guy admitted people weren't social distancing or adhering to rules

Another from Syria where a Father had infected his small child with COVID who was now a carrier

So many people are behaving as if it's people v government instead of all of us (even the incompetent ones) v the virus.

Couldn’t agree more EFFT It’s a pity people can’t put aside the political squabbling and one upmanship until we’ve beaten this darn virus

And the Scottish Chambers of Commerce have said there was a "clear lack of evidence" for continuing to impose such tight restrictions on the hospitality sector.

                                            ---------------------------------------------------------------------

So as far as they are concerned that means we should leave everything open until we get the clear evidence that THEY want, regardless! What's it to them if thousands more GET Covid-19, DIE from Covid-19. SUFFER LONG TERM EFFECTS of Covid 19.

And what if, once we get the CLEAR EVIDENCE that THEY want, it shows that if we had closed down earlier a lot of these cases, deaths and effects could have been avoided. Are they miraculously going to UN-INFECT people, resurrect a few dead people and lessen the effect on some?

I know that their CLEAR EVEDENCE  could, conversely, show the opposite, but are they really prepared to play Russian Roulette with peoples lives?

But it IS political. Who's in government? Who's lousing it up?

The most disappointing thing in all this is that it has revealed a Britain I didn't think existed. A selfish Britain where too many are looking at this crisis from their own perspective. Not from how we can all help each other.

My business, my holiday, my wedding ... an interview where a café owner said their area is isolated and thus shouldn't be locked down and then said they relied on tourism to survive. Well where's that coming from? Outside your area  - possibly from areas in tier 2

I can imagine if someone wants to go to a gym and believes they should stay open but are locked down in their area that they would travel to a gym where there wasn't lockdown.

This virus is never going to be controlled due to selfish attitudes.

I agree that the government aren’t doing much of a job .....but we are all lousing it up Sprout ....and as long as we are all pulling in opposite directions.....both politicians and the public .....we are never going to stand a chance of beating this bliddy virus ! Personally I think we locked down too late and came out too soon .....and I think we should lock down again now .....but that’s just my opinion . This is an unprecedented situation and I just don’t think political point scoring is doing any good .....cos no matter what your political persuasion ....we are where we are ...and no amount of government bashing will improve the situation ! What we really need ...imo.....is a coalition government.....but sadly  that ain’t going to happen .

These decisions should never be made with anything other than on medical advice. In fact it should be illegal to allow anything else
