RIGHT - Boris saying many people will die has freaked me out
So i've gone online and paid the Council Tax in full to avoid the Post Office
Shopping online only next week
Prescriptions from the GP and delivery all online too
I'm avoiding going out at all if i can
I think that Boris's speech has made everyone panic as it seems that the Government is not doing nearly enough. I've been at my local farm shop this morning and the car park was full...never seen this before even at Christmas as car park is enormous. But unlike Christmas nobody spoke it was like walking into a silent movie. But you could cut the tension with a knife...especially when one man coughed . It's going to be around for a while and people are already realising that we have to help each other as the ones in power aren't.Groups are being set up to shop for people and provide support in so many different ways. The sun is coming out properly next week. Make sure you get vitamin D from it Sainty
I was reading an idea someone came up with on twitter.
The first hour of opening, make sure all handles, taps, toilets are cleaned with antibacterial wipes, sprays etc that kills the Coronavirus and let the elderly and high risk groups shop alone for the first hour. I really haven't thought this through to be honest, although it sounds a great idea to me on first reading it.
I'm getting more annoyed at selfish people panic buying and not giving two hoots for those that can not afford to do the same and why are they doing this? If everyone bought normally, on line deliveries could cope normally if you can't get to supermarkets
I know I keep banging on about South Korea, but my son keeps me updated and its widely reported as the most successful country in the world at dealing with it. So why is the UK risking and sacrificing lives following a contentious scientific theory than a strategy that is working in the world right now. Because the SK govt is running things so well people are calm and not resorting to panic buying and hand gel hysteria.
It's the same everytime a 'crisis' situation happens. We have generated a very uncaring society and (mostly) no-one gives two hoots about anyone else. Even the government, as demonstrated by the fact that charities are PERMANENTLY factored into our financial system.

Funnily enough I saw a 'Coronavirus worldwide spread' map today and it had a teeny-weeny dot in Russia, indicating that they had 10+ cases.

The CDC have released a report saying with no intervention, still not happening at the direction of the White House, they expect 200 million to be infected here and 40 million to die. This is a much higher mortality rate than elsewhere and based on the demographics and infrastructure. There are tens of millions of illegal migrants here who won’t go to the doctor and tens of millions or more with no insurance who can’t afford to go. There are a very low number of hospital beds in the country and only ten percentage of these are critical care. You don’t get much sick time here typically six days a year and can be sacked for exceeding that. My husband has already been warned (Thursday) that three violations of this rule and you are out.
My immune system is compromised and I have chronic asthma. Now I can’t fly home. I am starting to think I never will. One day at a time...

2. We are in the second phase of the government's response
The government has published its action plan for dealing with the virus, which involves three phases - contain; delay; mitigate - alongside ongoing research.
While the emphasis has been on the contain and research phases up until this week, the country has now moved to the "delay" phase to stop the wider spread of the virus.
Personally I think the Contain and Delay phases should have been combined and run together from the start!
A tweet. Don't know if it's true but if it is, what have we become
Mayhem at our local ASDA in Walton, as a woman is stabbed, allegedly for her bog roll. My daughter was in the shop. Police, ambulance, the works. Perp apprehended by a member of the public.
Well, nothing as dramatic at my local shop, thankfully.
I was a little concerned however that some of the more recent emptied shelves were of perishables - particularly eggs and bread. The lad at the checkout was telling me people were stocking up on those large trays of eggs.
I do wonder if people have thought about how many they're actually going to use, though: not only could it cause shortages, but they're also looking at a lot of waste...
And eggs and bread have a shelf life anyway, maybe not so much the bread because depending on what kind it can be frozen, but even so......
Unless you have a big family or having to cater for a large number of people it is selfish and wasteful to stock up on perishables. Stupid too!

Yes, it is, shall we say unfortunate, that this virus has emerged at a time when lots of people are getting colds and flu anyway.
Is it a heavy cold or a mildish dose of CovID-19?
My daughter (10) has coronavirus. I'm so angry about the official response to the situation that I'm going to ****ing well tweet about it.
First, there's no testing now, so no log of who has it. Second, current guidelines are that she must self-isolate but that the rest of us in the household should feel free to operate as normal.
I'm lucky to be able to work from home. If I couldn't, I'd have to go to work. I am absolutely certainly a carrier of the virus.
I'd go by crowded bus, then crowded Tube, to a workplace with colleagues whose immunity is compromised, or who live with or care for elderly relatives.
Those over-70s & people with compromised immunity will be told to self-isolate. But not for a while, eh. Meanwhile, I and all the other virus vectors would be sitting next to them on the bus, or using the door handle just before them, or grappling with them for toilet roll.
So, I and the rest of the family are following WHO guidance, not UK government guidance, and self isolating. That's our choice, and one we're lucky to be able to make.
But I'm BEYOND enraged that we're in this position. The logic of telling people who've been exposed not to self-isolate if they don't have symptoms only works if you've told vulnerable people to stay isolated. Not if you just plan to do that at some point down the line.
No amount of ****ing WWII analogies will obviate these facts.
The end.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson set to deliver first daily update
Quick, turn down the volume!
It's Boris about to sing Happy Birthday while we watch a video of him washing his hands!
And Mr Fluffy Thing's sister and niece are stuck in Spain, Barcelona to be exact! We don't know if the Great Nephew is there as well!

There we go. Moving into stronger tactics. I would like to self isolate for about 2 months, if nothing more than to sort out some paperwork, catalogue my CD's and catch-up on lots of missed tellybox.
The positive is that they are saying that fatalities are generally low.
On a personal front...…………………..It seems a fortuitous circumstance that I retired FROM THE NHS (admin only, but worked around patients and in wards) a few months ago, before the CovID-19 bug surfaced!
Chris Witty, The Chief Medical officer just said "this is going to be a marathon not a sprint".
Should that not be "this is going to be a snickers not a sprite".
