With all the cases here, hardly any restrictions being enforced, the whole thing being written off by the White House as the “sniffles” and the massive number of science deniers here who refuse to social distance or protect others, plus full hospitals with a citizens first triage system, lung problems and at risk, I am wearing my mask everywhere I go, WITH PRIDE. In any event I long since reconciled myself to the knowledge that I am a twat, so I really don’t care if people think I look like one!

You're a what?

Damn right I do! And in the Florida heat too! It protects against 99.99% of vapors and particulates. Has filter extender buffs gives the filter a life’s of 70 hours. People can laugh all they want, although a lot more want to know where we got them, I really don’t care!

Trying to build up tolerance to wear it for the long flight home...

Does that mean you are finally going to be able to come back to the UK?

If so, I'm glad for you.....and happy that you'll be in a somewhat safer environment,

Well; I can't agree with the "T"-word description, but otherwise:

To the "science-deniers" line, I'd add what I'd call the "American Exceptionalists" who will defend their right to exercise what they perceive as their "freedoms", regardless of the communal - or even personal - cost. I genuinely weep at the number of "I thought it was a hoax - I was wrong"-type stories I've been hearing from the States.

Not sure when exactly, hopefully soon, very scary in the middle of this. Trying to make sure we are prepared for when the time comes.

I've just seen that Florida today recorded it's highest ever daily Covid-related death numbers, and its second-highest daily infection numbers.

Whatever you do, Roxan; please, please keep safe.

"Fans could be able to return to stadiums in England from October, says Prime Minister Boris Johnson"

Just in time for the second wave.

Great idea, stuff 20,30,40,50 thousand plus fans in to a stadium where at the final whistle, they all observe social distancing rules and files out sensibly. Well, I have never seen in my time attending games, fans leave a football stadium without major conjestion at the exits.!

Are we being encouraged to bulk/panic buy because of the second wave?   Didn’t do that the first time around but may just buy a little extra as more places go into lockdown 😷😢

And me!

And my Tesco shopping site said that from 1st August the slots will all have the same charge! Hope that means a reduced (for me) cost. Personally, I think it should have been made a low blanket cost quite a while ago, as the lockdown basically FORCED PEOPLE  to sign up for on line shopping.

I have had my shopping delivered for years now , so I get  a *season* ticket , COD it works out cheaper

Baz

I tended to get a LARGE delivery every two or three months, so it was cheaper just to pay the cost for each delivery. When lock down combined with panic buying (by others) then limited amounts imposed by the supermarkets meant the shopping had to be purchased each week, the supermarkets suspended their 'delivery saver/season ticket' schemes. So it's going to cost me over £200 this year for my deliveries instead of £20 to £60!

A sobering message from our grocery delivery driver -

I asked him if he was busy with deliveries - he said they were run off their feet, which he thought was odd as the shop which i won't name was "heaving" with customers.

He said there was no crowd control, no one way system, no one was wearing a mask and he said people were brushing past each other without any regard to social distancing.

He said he genuinely felt uncomfortable being there yet the customers seemed to not to care at all.

He said,

"You'd never know 40,000 had died - the shop is packed all the time"

He also said his MIL had been in Matalan wearing a mask and was asked by another customer if she had COVID and if not then why was she wearing a mask. She felt the attitude was you don't need one unless you are infected

It makes me despair

Haven’t been able to get a slot ( thank goodness my daughters have helped). Had an email from Tesco saying that they hadn’t heard from me for a while 🤬🤬

I hope you gave them a 'flea in their ear' and got them to tell you when you could access their slots?

My Tesco's slots have to be booked and checked out 3 weeks in advance - of course, you can still make changes to your orders up to 23:45 the day before delivery is due. I can usually set up the next order on a Wednesday, but it is for 3 weeks in advance.

i.e. I set up an order on Wednesday 15th July for Delivery on Friday 31st July. On Wednesday 22nd July I will set one up for delivery Friday 7th August. I can only get access to slots on a Wednesday and there are usually only 3 or 4 days from which to choose.

I used to set up an order on a Friday night, then without warning I couldn't! No one told me when I now could and I had to log in every day to try and get a slot.  After checking for over a week I was suddenly able to get access to slots on a Wednesday and so it has continued.

Where we are delivery slots have been HALVED - we have 12 slots in total per day

You used to have 24 hour delivery? Lucky you!

We used to have delivery slots from 8 am to 11pm. The 8 to 10 am and 10 to 11 pm slots are reserved for Key Workers/Vulnerable people  but it still leaves slots from 10 am to 10 pm for the rest of us.

It's changed again !!

We have 15 slots now - 8am to 11pm in one hourly slots

It was 2hourly slots the other day - must have been 7-8 slots not 12

Russia's hacking vaccines. Feck was that really worthy of blanket press coverage? We know that. Hacking's a worldwide profession.

Maddie McCann suspect. Blanket press. About three nights ago BBC news at ten led with climate change.

Am I missing something here? The media need to start at home and address the issues. Death rates and transmission rates and no deal. And deceit.

They're getting an easier ride otherwise.

As we all know covid 19 took a ten day holiday so we could buy masks etc in preparation for today,  in the village where I live people think it has gone away altogether. My husband went to the P.O./ village shop ( the only one in the village) this morning and no one except him was wearing a mask,  it is a small shop where it is also impossible to pass in the aisle 😱🤬🤬

😡😡what is wrong with people Machel ! I donned a mask and walked up to the local shop.......only the second time I’ve been out anywhere but the garden since March . I have to say I felt much safer in the mask ....but couldn’t bring myself to actually go into the shop .....but hey , it’s a start ....and my ankle held up quite well , considering

Thanks Roxan TBH my nerves were more frayed at being out than my ankle But I have to go out in the mornings cos it’s still too painful by the afternoon . Anyway , more importantly how are you doing ?

I don't know why there is such a palaver about which countries are on the quarantine list or not. In this current climate why are people wanting to go to places with a higher level of infection than home. I'd rather lose my money than my life!

Same here EFFT ...I think all borders should have remained closed !

Baz

It staggers me - when there is no news we sex up nothing to be something

It's like village mentality ... making things up to be more interesting for entertainments sake

And now we have something that can really be called a crisis what do we do?

We play it down - there's no need for masks - let's go on holiday and on and on

The reason? Cos we can't handle the truth - humans are so infantile when it comes to the truth

We are in a mess and we don't know what to do

B Johnson will be judged as washing his hands of responsibility on a grand scale

Just heard this myself, so apologies if it's widely known:

The Transport Secretary Grant Shapps is on holiday in Spain. He flew out on Saturday morning - just hours before the governement changed their travel rules. He will now have to quarantine for a fortnight when he returns to the UK.
