Gove says he doesn't think it necessary to make face mask wearing in shops mandatory.

"My view is it is always better to trust people's common sense.

After the recent scenes of crowded beaches etc. he comes out with this!!!!

WHAT COMMON SENSE?

That was exactly what I thought too EFFT .....totally ridiculous

My sister in Sheffield said in her local Asda, large store, there were only two other people wearing masks yesterday, and that people were laughing at her for wearing one. God know s what they would think of us, we wear half respirator masks like ww2 gas masks!

Maybe those people not wearing masks will laugh on the other side of their faces if they catch Covid-19

The problem is that wearing a mask protects other people from you not the other way round, so we need mass buy in. We wear then for each other.

I see they’ve opened Disney again Roxan ....in spite of the dreadful case figures in Florida

Baz

Face masks must be worn in “retail environments “, but not until the 24th July, so infect as many people as you can before then ( or perhaps this gives retailers time to rack up the prices) 🤬🤬🤬🤬

They just can't admit they got it wrong. Pathetic. Everywhere you look we are effed; Covid, No-deal Brexit, China, Trade deals, International respect, Leadership, Morals.....We are world class at lying and deceit though. And I thought May's lot were bad - this is Armageddon. A sad, lonely, laughing stock of an island aimlessly adrift in the Atlantic.

It really does get worse and worse! I have run out of words to describe the worsening of it all. And now we have '#no masks' circulating among the sheep on social media (please note I am not saying that all people on social media are sheep) citing the guff that came out from America. i.e. We are being muzzled, our bodies are being starved of oxygen, we are being forced to breathe in too much CO².

Can someone please point me to where all these dead surgeons and dentists are?

BBC had a news article a few weeks ago about the false claims about wearing masks resulting in too much CO² being breathed in:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/53108405

The fake image is based on a doctored image from this Wiki article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercapnia
Hypercapnia is something which can affect underwater diving, not from wearing a face mask.

On the news just now...

Blackburn could face tighter coronavirus restrictions in two weeks

Spikes seems to be emerging more frequently now.

But I guess it won’t be the last EC .....they shoulD  never have opened pubs etc ....in fact they shouldn’t have lifted any restrictions without insisting on masks !

If only the lockdown would have been in place until the end of July, then start easing out with mandatory face masks. I understand the pressure to get the country up and running again, but if we end up with another lockdown, then we are back at square one, for how long, who knows!.

The worrying thing for me is too many people in the medical profession are intimating that we more than likely will get a second wave come winter and combined with the flu at that time, it could be horrendous. I have decided to gradually start purchasing the essentials, like loo roll, to be fair to me, I have not purchased any since before March, it takes me months and months to get through a pack of 24 rolls. But I will get enough to see me to next spring/summer. I will also buy in more bar soap and tinned food. Dried pasta is also good as that keeps well. I'm not going to go mad, but just get in enough supplies to see the winter out. probably stock the freezer up with ice cream too.

I read that too EC ......and I think stocking up on some essentials is probably wise . Tbh since my husband died , I tend to keep a stock of the essentials in anyway , in case I can’t  get out ....mind you , never in my wildest dreams did I see this lot coming

132 deaths recorded in Florida - the highest daily figure for the state since this all started.

Also concerned for our friends in Washington: that state's just recorded it's highest daily rise in new infections...

I have washable face masks, my lovely friend Hoochie made me some fantastic ones  and like anything she does she looked up the best materials, filters etc.  I prefer to wear a mask for an hour than a ventilator for weeks

Do you have a face mask?

Where did you buy yours?

I've got two. One is washable and hubby got it from somewhere. The other was given to me by the tree surgeons., but has no instructions. It looks a lot like ones I've seen doctors and nurses wearing.

I’ve got some that kind friends sent me ....but I’ve just ordered some more from Argos ....all mine are disposable

I have to say that my (admittedly very limited) experience with disposable masks has been poor - from a pack of four, a  strap on two of them broke almost immediately.

I have however been rather lucky in that my company sent everyone a couple of decent, washable, masks last month.

Today.

"There are no plans to make face coverings mandatory for office workers in England, Matt Hancock has said".

So, I spend 8 hours in an office with a bunch of people and don't have to wear a face mask, but if I pop into HMV to pick up the latest release by a well known beat combo, I have to wear a face mask ????

This is very odd and confusing.

It will be especially odd that I will have to wear one in a restaurant and a pub, because like a shop I am in mixed company in an enclosed environment !!!! *sarcasm on my part*

Baz, I saw someone in the street with what appeared to be a space suit helmet, a white pipe coming from the helmet into a box strapped around their waist! Very strange.

Good grief EC .....maybe they are particularly vulnerable ?

@Former Member do you really wear that?

Respect if you do

I ordered 2 masks with extra disposable filters that last 10hrs a pop

Think i will be wearing it when i do the garden - if it's circulating in the air it could drift from anywhere

Yes, once I go out again ...even just for a walk ...I will wear one too Renton .

Damn right I do! And in the Florida heat too! It protects against 99.99% of vapors and particulates. Has filter extender buffs gives the filter a life’s of 70 hours. People can laugh all they want, although a lot more want to know where we got them, I really don’t care!

Trying to build up tolerance to wear it for the long flight home...

Good for you Roxan .....you need to do whatever you can to stay healthy

With all the cases here, hardly any restrictions being enforced, the whole thing being written off by the White House as the “sniffles” and the massive number of science deniers here who refuse to social distance or protect others, plus full hospitals with a citizens first triage system, lung problems and at risk, I am wearing my mask everywhere I go, WITH PRIDE. In any event I long since reconciled myself to the knowledge that I am a twat, so I really don’t care if people think I look like one!
