Still......

The trouble is, who do we believe and what advice do we follow?
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam (one of England’s Depute Chief Medical Officers) “is an internationally recognised flu, vaccine and respiratory expert. During his 25-year career, he has advised the World Health Organization, the UK Government and The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control on influenza and other respiratory virus infections.”

I’m listening to him because I believe he probably knows what he is talking about...as much as any other “expert” does atm.
So much is unknown, we really are in the dark.

That is the bottom line Yogi. It is all unknown and who do you believe. Every expert out there is sticking their beak in and there's a lot of conflicting opinion.

Still, we get to see inside people's houses and how they live now everything is video linked. Always do it with a shelve load of books you haven't read behind to impress

That's what I'm doing with Sky at 11.30.

lol It was mentioned on BBC Breakfast that a lot of people seem to be filming themselves in front of shelves of books - do you think they are trying to convince us they are well read?

lol I’ll be sure to watch Sky at 11.30

They say you can still be contagious two weeks after you appear to recover

And it's quite likely/possible that there are loads of contagious people walking around who are completely asymptomatic! Of course that is part of the reason for social distancing.

They were taking the Mickey out of that a bit on "Have I Got News For You" last night. The virtual host, Steph McGovern, noticed that guest Helen Lewis had a copy of her own book "Difficult Women" displayed prominently on the bookshelf behind her.

Paul Merton appeared to be trying to ring the changes by appearing in front of a massive DVD collection ("His car boot sale business is currently on hold.", as Steph quipped ), but in a way he  was just rather showing off his own sphere of expertise - silent movies (he half-joked about being a world expert on Mary Pickford...)

Apparently it's slightly longer than a long handled broom.

Wisteria Lane, Whatsitshire, a street with 27 residents has had 10 infections and 3 deaths. Meanwhile, round the corner in Maple Drive, a road with 372 residents, 367 infections have been recorded with 300 deaths. (All made up statistics!!!!)

I think even the bunch in charge would be wary of broadcasting statistics THAT specific!

God, that episode was painful watching.  Each contrived laughter detracting from the actual humourous impact of the quip.  They tried their best under the circumstances and I suppose you have to give them that, but it was more awkward to watch than laugh at.

*Breaking News*

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests under medical advice.

He's still showing "persistent" symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive.

Downing Street are stressing it's not an emergency admission and he remains in charge of the government. It's not clear at the moment if he's staying in hospital overnight, though...

Yes: he popped outside the door of No. 10 to join in the applause for the NHS on Thursday, but he looked really rough.

Update on the BBC from Laura Kuenssberg:

Johnson will stay in the hospital overnight. He's still leading the government, however Dominic Raab will chair the government coronavirus meeting tomorrow morning.

Yogi I am angry with the government for their handling of this crisis. I'm not political point scoring I'm comparing their strategy with that of South Korea who are the most successful country at dealing with this. They are through it now and for a population of 50 plus million to have a total death toll of 179 is clearly amazing and brilliant. My son is out there and is terrified for the UK as he has seen how slow to react we were, how poor the response has been regarding testing and protecting our frontline staff etc etc I don't want to go into it any more as it's too depressing. They have made a lot of disaterous mistakes.

I hope you and your family stay safe. I am upset and  angry because I care

Amythist

Amythist, my post was a plea - not an accusation - re political point scoring because, sadly, you don’t need to look too hard to find evidence of it.
As we have seen with Sweden, not every country is following the same strategy to deal with Corona virus but, I’m sure they are all doing what they think and hope is right for their country.

I know you care - as do I and I’m having sleepless nights with the worry of it alI.
I hope you and your family stay safe too.

Boris Johnson has been moved into intensive care.

He is not on a ventilator, and the line from Downing Street is that it's a precautionary measure in case he has to go onto ventilation. He is still conscious, but his condition has definitely worsened.

Johnson has asked Dominic Raab to deputise "where necessary".

Listening to Jeremy Vine on tv this morning, he was explaining the measures South Korea had taken when someone was identified as being infectious, I don’t think this would have been possible in the uk nor would people accept them

machel

When my Mum was in Critical Care i asked what was the difference between Critical Care and Intensive Care.

I was told Critical Care patients are expected to make a recovery.

Intensive Care patients are not always expected to make a recovery.

Scary that Boris has gone straight into Intensive Care

Forget social distancing on that platform.

Although I think his attitude towards the virus has genuinely changed, he still isn't following his own medical advice.

I can understand Trump not wanting to wear a facemask, but come on: our own government's briefings show that social distancing isn't difficult...

I think the key is if he is actually put on a ventilator.

The brutal maths of this illness is that the longer you're on one of those, the less likely you are to recover...

I didn't hear Jeremy Vine Machel but I'm aware of the information app and what it does. I think it must be enormously comforting to know where infected people have been and when the areas have been disinfected. Obviously the widespread and open armed testing facilities are integral to this. The objections were privacy related as people having affairs were outed and anyone being deceptive about their movements could be identified. I think the majority of people would accept that . I certainly would. No one was named but they were given a number
