I started a new job a few weeks ago and today I had to do something that I hadnt done before. And I am really worried I have made a mistake with it.

It was post and involved pre paying for it online and counting how many , stamping  them etc and I am really worried I have miscounted or not stamped one etc!

I feel so anxious about this job already that I this hasnt helped! I dont want to go in tomorrow . It will be really embarrassing If i have messed it up and will make me so rubbish!

Try and keep things in perspective.

You're a new starter, mistakes bound to happen, everyone makes mistakes. Your colleages will have made plenty.

Its better if you have a relaxed attitude about it or more errors will follow.

People will respect you more if you are reflective and accepting of your error rather than uptight.

After all ... is it that disasterous if you did make a mistake?

I do sympathise Chicken ...anxiety is really horrible ...but you can worry about it all night , it won't change it ....if there is anything to change that is And in the scheme of things it would only be a tiny mistake , even if you've made one Trust me , I made much worse mistakes  during my working life So try not to dwell on it ....

i was knocking about with a girl years back who was quite high up at BBC-i went back stage with her on a children in need night

a floor manager asked me to go on the phone (dont forget this is live tv) as they were an operator down-he explained very quick about taking pledges/money etc..

i hadnt got a clue

i just kept picking phone up & putting my finger on receiver button, nodding & pretending to talk

so dont worry about a few stamps

i probably cost an african village its water supply

Wise words ...

It'll be fine Chicken, really

If it makes you feel any better, my newly graduated son recently started a new job on a three month trial period.

The day they told him that he was now on a permanent contract he was so excited he left the office without (a) doing the post (b) turning out the lights and (c) locking up.

He remembered at about 9 pm - he was in the pub having some celebratory drinks. He legged it back to the office at a rate of knots

Try not to be anxious over what seems like a trivial mistake, and that's if you have made one. I panic over things that never happen, so I do know how you feel  It doesn't get us anywhere, I always think to myself what would be the worst case scenario and the worst case for you would be someone pointing out your mistake, if indeed you have made one and if they even pick up something like that. Please try not to stress out about it, this time tomorrow you'll be annoyed at yourself for getting wound up over nothing...and I know, I am that worrier

*I really laughed out loud at Pirate's post*
