The death of Osama Bin Laden has prompted a huge reaction from the celebrity world this morning.

The Al-Qaeda leader's demise was announced this morning by US president Barack Obama, who confirmed that the terrorist was killed in a military operation in Pakistan.

Hollywood actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger said: "I'm proud of our men and women in uniform. Wherever you are, take a minute to say thank you to one of the brave heroes who serve our country."

Meanwhile, 'Smile' singer Lily Allen joked: "I know that Osama Bin Laden is dead, but if we could all stop for a minute to consider today's REAL news I'd very much appreciate it... It is my birthday."

What a feckin stupid thing to say!

I heard something about that on the tele. (About how Al-Quaeda or however ya spell it) started. But that's as far as my vast knowledge goes

Oh now you're just being ridiculous!      My mobile is never off..... I hyperventilate if the battery life drops below 50%.

Mine is permanently on silent and I check it once a day at most.

so why bother having one?

Feckin indeed.   Imagine wanting a birthday on the day Osama crossed the Styx.

Mainly so I can use it to contact other people. I don't see why I should be constantly available to others, and I'm not upset or offended if their phones are off when I call them. I also have it so that others can leave messages or send texts, so long as they don't expect an immediate response.

Nah, not really. What does piss me off is the way that most people seem to be slaves to their mobiles. Actually, it doesn't so much piss me off as fill me with horror

Agree ^^^^^^^^. i find it incredibly sad the way that some really cannot live without their mobi. It's a wonderful invention ...........so useful at times but ...................I'll never be a slave to my phone!

yeah, i get that. people screaming on the bus first thing in the morning about what happened in eastenders the night before is a bit horrifying.

I just commented on the phone thread too..... I hardly every use it.. but my Dad's 85, my sister doesn't keep well... I like knowing I can be reached at any time.

Funnily enough.. the two times it haveing my mobile with me mattered wasn't related to either of those two, but they were worthwhile instances all the same, so whilst I don't feel I'm a slave to it - I hate not having it with me.

I like Lilly Allen and I like the way she's a bit gobby and opinionated but not in a thick and obnoxious way like Jordan.  Her music although not really my thing, is not bad either. The comment was in jest.

If I'm honest, I thought Bin Laden was already dead and I'm not 100% sure the man they killed was actually Bin Laden as it all seems a bit sudden to me.  I doubt his death will  significantly change 'the war on terror'.
