For those who missed it and would like to see the ISS, it passes over UK again at 9:59pm (just before Big Brother) in the Western sky travelling from North to South. It will appear as a bright star (about as bright as Venus) travelling quickly (it takes about 2 minutes to cross from one horizon to the other). Enjoy.

Why can we suddenly see it spider?
OK I could be wrong, but I believe we can always see it a few times each day, Cologne, but more often than not it is day time when it passes over the UK.
Ooooooooooooooh I shall look out but .................what is ISS? Sorry to be thick but I'm not up on astronomy and stuff!
International Space Station, Sooz.

Thanks spider, I didn't know that and I wasn't really listening to the news. I'm going to see if I can catch it, it's been clear all day.
I didn't know it could be seen every day, I've seen it a couple of times. The first time I thought it was aliens
Cheers .........so are we looking for a large(ish) white light?
The one I saw at around 8:25 was more orange than white. The light is the sun reflecting off the Space Station's solar panels. It's about as bright as Venus (aka the evening/morning star).
I had to google it !!!!! I shall be going to have a gander.. if there are no clouds..

Meteor showers are really difficult to see thanks to light pollution. You'd need to drive out into the countryside where there are no street lamps.
I've seen loads when i've been in Cornwall....the car park at Gwithian is a great spot for that.
I saw the space shuttle when I was kid.

It was wide open, staring in awe at the ISS
Strange to see something gliding so smoothly and yet making no sound. (Yes, I know it's a long way away.) But it is a weird and fascinating effect.
I saw it!!!! When I first went out a plane was passing overhead, then I wasn't sure if the ISS was a plane or not, but it wasn't, yippeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Thanks spider
