My DOc also told me to NEVER clean your ear canals with a cotton bud, just drop a couple of drops of Olive Oil into your ears and that will loosen andything that's lurking there...

too right, I've had 20 plus years of agony
& 2 operations through using cotton buds,
They do more harm than good,
Glad to see you still around Jen.

Hun get yourself to the doctors asap, don't leave it, as others have said it could be an infection amd you need antibiotics to move it.
I had a really bad one a couple of weeks ago, staying up all night with the pain and in the end had to go to A&E, where they did help.
I need to go back as the antibiotics have helped a little, but I am still getting pain from my ears, it's horrible and I know exactly how you are feeling, I was rocking backwards and forwards in my armchair crying with the pain the other Friday night.
Try googling NHS Direct and clicking the link on earache, it gives you some questions to answer and then says if you need the doctors or not, mine said doctors, then as the pain got worse, said A&E, that was when I knew we had to go.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon

Well done for going back DD... I thought yours had been chased off xxx
LGS - I'm with everybody else on this one... assuming its not swine flu... go to the quack and get anti-biotics asap.

Oh poor him, there's nothing worse than those first few days of a flu - i hope he gets well soon, plenty of paracetamol! been a life saver for me. You need to get something for your ear before it develops!!! PROMISE??!
I'm feeling hugely better now, still not 100% but loads better than the weekend, I've stopped taking the tamiflu thou dunno if i should have but it was making me throw up

Glad to hear you are feeling a little better, keep on the paracetamol and even though you might feel like you want to do things, try not too as you will still be weak.

Oh poor you, hope it all get sorted as soon as.. horrible having earache
I have had a blocked ear with the occasional bout of earache for six months. Doctors sent me to an ENT consultant. He did some tests and stuck a endescope up my nose.
When I asked him what was causing my problem, he shrugged his shoulders and said he did not know but to come back in six months and he will have another look.
Have gone back to my doctor and made a complaint and have demanded to see some one else.
I have to go back in two weeks time. Meanwhile I have started with tinitus.
Old age, I hate it.

I'm hoping this other prescription he has given me will be the end of it, at least I can open my jaw now which I couldn't do very well a few weeks ago....i just keep getting a pain 'crawling' up the side of my head at regular intervals...grrrr....so fingers crossed eh...it was Ditty who told me to keep going back as the jaw infections can get quite nasty if left too long
The Doc descibed my ear infection as 'very angry' lol...made me titter...
