(although my cat would obviously smell of Chanel No 5)

Heheheh!

Food and litter tray in the one room though? That's kind of like crapping in the dining room!

that's what i thought... then I thought.... tiny flat.. food and tray could only go in the kitchen... kitchen off lounge... do I really want to sniff THAT all evening... or worse when I'm having my dinner?

Have to say she did seem suprised when she opened the door, so presumably it doesn't always smell like that, but ......  what if it DID?

Honestly... do they whiff?      I saw Slinks discuss 'stinky paw prints' with Lori the other day.... AND.. i was looking at a ragdolls website and saw a warning about them leaving the litter tray with bits sticking to their fur.    It could be a very short lived love affair..

Hand on heart they dont smell. The litter tray smells if you dont empty it but I have flushable litter and i keep it right next to the toilet so when i go to the loo its SOOO easy to just scoop whatever they have done down the loo at the same time. Job done.   You can get all sorts of enclosed litter boxes now with filters so that even the room doesnt smell that much, i dont have one of them, i just have a bog standard covered litter box.  The house doesnt smell of them at all, they eat dry food and they are clean.  I dont know about long haired cats, but if your on top of it, they would be fine, im sure.

No, it was when Minka was on the wet food to build her up when she first arrived,  she did it with her paws.. she doesn't have that stuff any more ( and licked it all off her paws anyway before she left her dish! ) Honestly kaffy, it's not a problem

A dirty litter tray is no different to a dirty toilet. Only difference is they can't flush. They'll do their best to cover it up though (unless it's my cat who always had her sister to do it and since she died scrapes the side of the tray until you come along and empty it)

Don't give your cat too much wet food coz it rots their teeth(unless you're prepared to brush them). Watch out for dry food too. Look for the ash content. My male cat had to be put to sleep after a year of treatment for crystals in his bladder. Crystals that built up from the ash in cat food. I asked the vet what she meant by ash and she told me it was cigarette ash. They do it to bulk out the cat food. This is maybe why I give my cat tins of tuna
