Just remember what someone told me years ago..."depression is not a sign of weakness, it's a signal that you have been trying to be too strong for way too long"..
Lazybug, I'm happy to hear that you are feeling less depressed and that you are going to see your doctor, and I hope you make an appointment on Monday if you haven't already.
When my late mother went to the nursing home I noticed that each resident was given a memories book to use - my mother never got around to using it, but in January whilst I was in hospital recovering from my breakdown I remembered the memories book. So I started keeping a daily diary of things which I had done, seen or thought about - trying to be positive about what I was writing (but being honest - if something bad has happened don't ignore it but at the same time try to have some positive things to say). I made a deliberate effort to do this each day whilst I was in hospital. And for me this was part of my path to recovery, because in a way it's a form of cognitive behaviour therapy as I was training my brain to think in a positive way rather than a negative way which is symptomatic of depression.
Even though I have now been out of hospital for almost 4 months now and am back in full health, I have continued to keep a daily diary. It has worked for me and it may work for you and for others reading. But it's no substitute for seeing a doctor - it is merely possibly part of the treatment.

Love this quote Suzy
Lazybug you are stepping in the right direction - I am happy for you.
Goodness reading through this thread and hearing of everyone's troubles is very moving.
As always with depression, or any mental illness, unless you've been through it it can be very difficult to understand.
Those of us that have been there can empathise.
to all.

Suzy, I have tears in my eyes - that is just wonderful. Good luck to LB and everyne suffering with depression
I've only just read through this thread and LB if you're around I hope you're feeling better hun. Big for anyone suffering with depression. I've been there myself and I can only say that things do get better. I sometimes look back at the way I felt, so worthless and unhappy, I just wanted to give up. But if I had, I would have missed out on what's eventually turned out to be a very happy and fulfilled life. Suzy is spot on about trying to be strong for too long. We all need help and support at different times in our lives and there is certainly no shame in admitting that.
This thread has also reminded me about what a wonderful place this is. to all of you for being so caring.
