I need to vent. Frowner

I sent my niece and nephew congratulations cards for their GCSE results with money in. It was only ÂĢ5 each but I'm not rolling in dosh.

Apparently my brother, who lives in Australia, also sent them cards and money (probably a lot more than me as he's a flash git) and they both posted thankyous to him on Facebook.

I thought mine had not arrived so I texted my sister who said yes they arrived last week. Now I'm pissed off because they haven't bothered to thank me so Aunty Skive is obviously not as cool as Uncle Australia.

I also feel pissed off because I feel like I shouldn't be pissed off because I gave the money without wanting any thanks and I don't want to whine about it to my mum and sister because then I really would be deeply uncool.

I just wish they'd said thanks to both or none cos now I feel like they don't like me as much as they like him.

How pathetic am I? Frowner

Sorry for whinging. Frowner

Thanks Baz, I'm trying to put it into the teenage perspective but it's the fact that they both thanked my brother but not me that hurts the most I guess.

I understand exactly how you feel, it happens to me all the time but like you I never say anything. It's bloody well not right though and it's downright bad manners Mad

It makes me not so generous to them the next time then I always end up feeling guilty.

I feel stupid for being upset as I know what teenagers are like but I couldn't help it, when my sister texted me back I just burst into tears. I must be hormonal or something. Ninja

Regardless of how much, your gift was sent with as much love as your brothers. It's not about who sent the most, it's about acknowledging an achievement. They in turn should have acknowledged your gift.

I'm really sorry you're upset cos you're obviously a kind and loving auntie. Hug

That's it exactly clipboard. I feel like I'm being a right mean cow by thinking 'well I won't bother next time' but then I'm not a gay man living a flamboyant lifestyle in Australia so I guess I'm just boring old Aunty Skive who never forgets their birthdays or other celebrations (unlike Uncle).

Thanks cosmo, I do love them to pieces and they're usually lovely kids. I must be hormonal. Blush

I know you're saying "hormonal" so as to lighten your mood, but you know it's not that at all.

I'm sure the next time you see or speak to them - and if you ask about their exams - that would jog their memory. I know it's kind of fishing but perhaps they might be a bit overwhelmed by it all at the moment. You know what teens are like; way over the top with the emotions and drama of it all....especially when they're celebrating with their mates.

It's probably an oversight, Skive. Maybe they felt they had to make a fuss of Uncle Oz because he's NOT SO COOL if they don't jump when he gets in touch?

Thanks cosmo but I'm pretty sure that he scores higher on the cool scale than me. Smiler Now that I've texted my sister I expect I'll get thankyous before the end of the day as she'll realise what has happened and tell my mum who will go all nanny on them. I might have to up the stakes for their A Level results and send a singing congratulations telegram or something and see if they ignore that. Big Grin

Get the voddie anyway. Thumbs Up They're in South Wales and I'm in Yorkshire so I guess I'm 'far away' in that I only see them when I go visit my mum and dad. I'm pretty sure that I'd still score lower on the cool scale even if I lived on the moon though. Teenagers eh! Big Grin
