I don't want to have yet another browser installed and don't trust IE.

Having it installed is like having any other programme installed that you don't use much. It's an icon on your desktop it only adds to your overheads when you launch it then ceases to be when you close it. GC works best here so I use it just for that. I really need to shut up I'm beginning to sound like a Google Chrome sales rep

Check out Simple Minds before they became crap. Best basslines of all time (Derek Forbes I think it was) or early Joe Jackson (Graham Maby?).

I love Simple Minds. My taste is so varied (I go from Runrig to Westlife to WASP) but I always go back to my personal fave. 80s rock and heavy metal. IMO heavy metal is quite often overlooked. We're not all greasers

Human League for their first three albums were very good.  The Human League post "Dare" went downhill pretty spectacularly, especially when they discovered cheesy US commercial soul in mid 80s and got Janet Jackson's producers in.  The one where they try to sound like Alexander O'Neil, "Human" I think it's called, is dire - as is the aptly named "Crash" album it came from.

I don't know whether to include them as they're fairly derided these days, but Oasis.

I say that as someone who has about five of their albums.  I suppose Oasis are over rated by, ahem... Oasis more than anyone else.

Their reverence for the Beatles and 1960s imagery has proven to be their musical straight jacket over the years and Liam Gallagher is a very limited vocalist, who's long become a parody of himself.

Even when they were good and getting plaudits all over the place I thought of them as good musicians and song writers but quite musically unadventurous compared to bands such as Primal Scream.  The Quoasis tag is very apt IMO.

What a great post - I wish I could have put it like that.

Annie Lennox - I only ever hear her singing one song by different names ..... and does she have to look so earnest?

I missed this post yesterday...

Annie Lennox...  could take her or leave her... however, recently released album of her singing (very earnestly) christmas carols  cancels out anything good she may have previously done.   From now on I am giving all credit for Sweet Dreams to Dave Stewart (he had 90% of it anyway)...

She also can't do a three point turn in a very small car, on a wide empty road either!   Me & hubby stood laughing at this little car making a complete balls up of turning round outside his flat in Kilburn...     then hubby said "bloody hell its Annie Lennox"     She had her window down and must have heard him (also must have heard us laughing at her)...  and gave hubby a wave!

she didn't even need to do a three point turn... the road is wide enough just to do a u turn!

Thanks! I appreciate that. The neighbours have rallied round. My Dad has macular and is getting very forgetful. My Mum isn't too good on her feet but between 'emselves they manage. If one is taken out of the partnership they are in trouble. Anyway he's home now. We'll take 'em for lunch and I  think he should be OK in the lounge while we shop!
