Which artists do you think have achieved fame and recognition way beyond their actual talent? For me...

Duran Duran: awful vocalist, incredibly bland songs and they all looked ridiculous. How did they ever become so popular?

Oasis: an entire career based on being a really crap version of John Lennon. Their lyrics are nonsensical and the vocals sound like Lennon on a very bad day. Utter cack.

Bon Jovi: how many awful songs are one band allowed to inflict on the world before the government intervenes and puts them all in prison?

Status Quo. 3 chords, hundreds of diabolically bad songs. They should have been shot after the first one.

Dire Straits really did live up to their name but I think they were kind of a flash in the pan. Does anyone remember anything they did apart from Sultans of Swing? I was going to say The Who but they did some amazing albums (I loved Quadrophenia) and wrote some real classics. the only music i hate is jazz and the only singer i can name from that type is cleo lane that is utter crap music

Queen are incredibly over rated. The songs that weren't gimmicky all sound the same. Anyone who says "It's a kind of magic" and "Radio Ga Ga" are anything other than throwaway gimmicky and mediocre pop/rock, is over rating them. The universal praise heaped on that band makes them easily the most overrated band ever.

I agree completely in the case of both songs but they have written many other songs that are just brilliantly imagined and show great musical talent and fantastic melodies. Don't Stop Me Now, Killer Queen, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, We Are The Champions... throwaway gimmicks? Not from where I'm sitting

Not as bad as "Radio Ga Ga" or "I want to break free" but they don't rise much above good time throwaway pop or lighter waving stadium sing-a-longs. Not for me Prom, I find their music lacking subtlety. I'd be hard put to think of more than ten Queen songs I would choose to listen to or anything by them that I'd rate higher than 7 out of 10. They pretty much leave me cold.

Dire Straits were good for going to sleep to.... well kinda good... twas the one with Romeo & Juliet, & Telegraph Road on it... but half way through you'd get Twisting by the Pool come on and have to spring out of bed to fast forward the tape... in a rage of argghhhhh!

(the Dire Straits tape belonged to a boyfriend btw.... wasn't mine)
