I feel that parents should be able to make the right decisions for themselves. This is only another way of turning normal citizens into criminals. Are we prepared to have a camera inside our home to make sure that nobody smokes in front of their children?

I think it will be extremely difficult to almost impossible to police this. I feel for the kids and can see why the government would want to try and protect them.
Personally hate smoking and I would love to see a smoking ban widened to public areas like parks and picnic sites. Would be nice if the government stuck another ÂĢ5 on a packet of cigs too.
Seems wrong to smoke in an enclosed space with kids?
I used to hate being in a smoke filled car as a child

It is, but most ppl know that and don't do it. Is the Police going to chase a car driver who smokes and appears to have ppl in the car? We should not let the Government treat us like this.
You mean shot in a car?

I'm not talking about shooting, I'm talking about civil liberties being undermind by a Government who is not supposed to be a Nanny State.

True, I see your point.
I can't believe that anyone nowadays would smoke in the vicinity of children, especially not in cars. Do they?
Reasonably cryptic.
What wouldn't be a car?
You watchin me then?
Live close?
No clue how it will be done ,fixed penalty I assume .
Delighted that the issue is being tackled.
He'll/ She'll set em up.
It's also illegal to use a mobile phone / send text messages whilst driving yet I see numerous drivers doing both on a daily basis.
If there are no police around - people will still consider it worth the risk.
Also - if a smoker who smokes in their home wants a contractor (plumber/electrician etc) to do work in their house, they are not supposed to smoke in the house for 48 hrs before the contractor arrives.
I wonder how many don't abstain and just spray a can of air freshener around 10 mins before their arrival?
Hello Mike.
Contractor in their house eh...
What you doing up so early buddy?
This is sleep time for the normal ones unlike myself who work unsociable hours!.
Buddy kinda narrows it..
I've run out of steam now. Seattle will remain for now.
I guess it will be a fixed penalty punishment, police stop vehicles for a multitude of reasons, so they may as well have a sniff in your car too.
I take the point about personal freedom, but if we accept that inhaling smoke can and probably will cause damage to a child, then is it any different from protecting children from damage by any other cause, just because it doesn't involve anger and violence, it still does damage.
I have seen loads of parents smoking in cars and it always makes me angry. I'm an ex-smoker and all for smoker's rights in a lot of ways, but this just is awful and as I see it quite a lot, I hope they do try and enforce it.
You can stop "PPL" smoking by covering it in flame retardent material.
Or contact your local Fire Prevention Officer
Is a bit ironic really though don't you feel....the actual fumes from the car itself are far more damaging to child...and adult!
Do agree though,it is a bad thing to smoke in such an enclosed space with children about!
However....it would be yet another nail in the coffin towards a nanny state.
Why not make the exhaust emit steam?
All the yukky bad stuff will drip on the floor (not the air) and go down the sewer to be treated by boffins elsewhere
Close to genius me thinks
Off work for 3 days - going nowhere . . . . and eating chocolate

Ooh nice!
Just chocolate?
You do realise chocolate is a natural laxative??
