Depends, my sleep pattern's all over the shop now mainly cos of meds so sometimes I just fall asleep like I've been hypnotised and others I'll be awake for hours on end. I've always been a night owl though.
I know what you mean - when I was going through all sorts of personal crap it wasn't unusual for me to be up till 4 in the morning and then going to work at  0730.
However I have since gone back to my normal sleep patterns - I do stay up later but when I go to bed I am asleep in seconds.

Maybe that's part of it for me. I did night shift for years and now it's very rare for me to sleep before 4am. People don't understand why I don't do mornings and think I'm lazy, but they couldn't still function in the early hours whereas I can
I did nights for years but the trouble is I am not a night person... I would get to 4 am and literally be dropping with tiredness.

I seem to function a lot better at night E-mails, work, studying...all seems to be easier to focus on than in daylight. Maybe it's cos everyone else is in bed I dunno. Even when I had an office base for work I'd still do most of my work from home after office hours and usually past 11pm. I'm sure someone's probably done some kind of research on stuff like this, but I think the truth is I'm surviving on a New York time zone and should be living there

I never seem to be 'done' with the day somehow
I would love to be able to go to bed and be asleep before midnight and think 'tomorrow is a new day'. But cos I'm more than often not awake when a new day begins that philosophy never registers with me and I just think 'here we feckin go again - what new hell will await me when I wake?'

Mine isn't personal stuff anymore, it's the medical. I'm ok with it now though, as long as I can get done what needs to be done I'm ok. I have never been a morning person, despite years of getting up at stupid o clock to commute across town to get to work or to drive halfway round the country for a 10am meeting. Even when I'd have appointments I'd make them between 11 and 3 so I could wake up late and get home before rush hour, and then do my work late at night. I could never, ever go back to a structured daily 9-5 office based job. I'd need to have some kind of break in the week to get out of the office somehow.
