I'm the same- lived half of my adult life in Norfolk, and half in Yorkshire, so tend to alternate between the southern and northern pronunciations without any awareness of doing so and probably one comes out more than the other depending if I'm with Southerners or Northerners
My northern comes out when I am drunk, angry, over excited.. or sometimes for no apparent reason at all!

There's an "e" on the end for a reason. Hence it's scone as in loan.

A, because I am.
I'd always thought that the short 'o', rhyming with 'gone', was the posh version. The long 'o', rhyming with the French river, was the Hyacinth Bucket mode.

To rhyme with gone
Scone as in rhyming with 'bone..' That is how *I* pronounce it.. What does my head in is when people say Shrows-berry, instead of Shrewsbury! Diferent horse for different courses, but I believe the way *I* pronounce the words to be correct.
