Words fail me. Surely any mother would put her own life at risk without hesitation to try to protect her children? If she was that scared of her husband, why the hell was she subjecting her child to such danger by staying with him?

Agree with all of you.

Any "normal" mother would do anything to protect their kids.

I cant stop thinking about what they put that child through. How brave of her to waive her anonymity . Lets hope she has the last laugh!!

Absolutely revolting. Even if you could stand by the first time (I can imagine being afradi - if he battered the mum, then the girl may be at risk of being treated worse). But you'd do a runner while he was asleep - get the kid and yourself out of there.

Just read that story 3 times, and wont be popular for saying this but it's possible (and only slightly) that the mother was genuinely terrified of trying to do anything to stop it happening.

A natural mum's reaction to reading this is why didn't she do something, anything, to stop it happening, but remember we are only reading the journo's edited view of the circumstances, there is probably a lot more to it than that.

Sorry Karma but I doubt he turned from doting husband to associating with child rapists overnight. She must have had opportuities to get that child out of danger.

Reading that really leaves you feelign numb, doesn't it. You can't begin to imagine how those poor girls must have felt. How can we call ourselves a civilised society when two children can be let down so badly by the people who should be willing to die to protect them?

It happend over 19 years ago, the mother was 26 when it happened. I wonder why the daughter hasn't brought charges against the accused. And where was the grand mother when this was happening? That poor child (now an adult).

The article says that it was Dunsmore's father, so the girls' grandfather.

A real Mother would never stand by or put their own fears first. Scared of a battering? She should have picked up whatever came to hand and given the ones hurting her baby a bluddy good pounding, and gladly faced the consequences!

Anyone heard of the Japanese form of Death Row? Apparently the prisoners are kept in a small cubicle type cell. They never know when they're going to be hung, so every day they wake up wondering if today will be the day. Most of the inmates become insane as a result of the whole ordeal. Apparently the UN, Amnesty International and the likes want to intervene, claiming it to be inhumane.

Seems quite fitting for some crimes to me though.
