I've recently moved into a house with another girl who i didnt know previously, i got a good feeling about her when i came to look at the house and decided to move in .. i think i regret it now ..
We have no tumble dryer in the house and i searched around for one and found one for ÂĢ50 2nd hand, so i text her and asked her if she wanted to go halves on it (we are currently drying everything on a few maidens - v time consuming and not fully effective) - she refused but said " if you want to get it then thats ok " .. errrrm sorry but why would i buy it just to find her using it ?? I genuinely don't believe that she'd NOT use it, i have a pretty active social life so am always out and about so she could get away with using it without my knowledge.. what should i do? I know its only ÂĢ50 but thats alot to me and its the principal aswell.. why should i buy it for her to use it? What should i do??

If she didn't have one before you moved in then it's unlikely that she'll use it much if at all... I never use one
So you wouldnt be tempted if your sheets had been 'drying' on the maiden for 2 days ???

Tumble Dryers are probably a mystery to her. Many years ago I can remember going to the bagwash, and using something like one, but I wouldn't now. They aren't very green. So it's clothes lines and then clotheshorse, or Maiden as you NW types call 'em, and radiators.

I got rid of mine because I never used it. I use the washing line or the radiators and if I can't get stuff dry...take it down to the launderette and use theirs.

We never use one - always dry on the clothes horse because clothes feel softer that way.
If you want one then buy it. Take the chance that she won't use it, even if she does so what?? At least you get your clothes dry the way you want them.

Maybe she can't afford to pay half for it, but I see how you feel it's unfair to buy one by yourself.
It reminds me of when I was sharing a flat in London many years ago, and I brought my little portable tv with me. This flatmate flatly refused to contribute to the tv licence, yet tried to dictate what programmes we watched. She was earning a lot more than me as well.

not the greatest when all said and done, she seems to be really condescending to me.. plus she had a fella when i moved in they were going out years now all of a sudden he's been dumped and she's some other lad in .. seems a bit well trampish to me .. but maybe thats just my morals ..

i put ÂĢ50 on leccky and ÂĢ50 on gas accounts via DD every month, she take cares of all the little bills like council tax etc - works out we pay about the same - our current bill for electric was ÂĢ6 .. it would hardly break the bank
and u put a tumbly in it will cost 3 times as much
aye we use a tumble dryer (i love mine LOL) and it does cost quite a bit more than when we use the line...which isn't often due to the amount we have to do..and the weather .about ÂĢ15-20 a week at times (depends on the washing thats needs doing)

My thoughts exactly! Though if I wanted one, I'd buy it and not worry too much about whether or not she used it. Particulary if you're splitting the electric bill 50/50.
I think you're being a touch Ebenezer about it...you want it, she's not fussed. If you buy it outright it's yours to take with you when you move. Even if she does use it the odd time it's not big deal (though obv. if she was hogging it and you couldn't get the chance to use it that would be different)

You could buy it and stipulate she can't use it (but that may be awkward) but if she's really not that bothered, she probably wouldn't use it anyway.
