Nicest was on my honeymoon in Prague, stayed at the MÃļvenpick hotel there, was stunning, the place had it's own cable car!

Worst, ugh, we stayed at this hotel in Coventry once, I think it was called the Britannia or something and it was just awful still had a naff pink bathroom suite, mould up the walls, paper peeling off and we were woken at 4am by the bloody heating system clanging like a church bell.  It was dire.

Mr. LLF has also just reminded me of a TravelLodge we once stayed in, on the M62 near Leeds.  Lets put it this way, i have refused to stay in a Travelodge ever again - light fittings hanging off the walls, stained wall paper and carpets, looked like there had been a riot in there the night before *shudders*

I travel a lot with work and have had a wide range of experiences both good and bad I think in general you get what you pay for with the chains and you know what to expect, if I can I like to stay at Best Westerns as they've more individuality, better food and you have the quality standards of the BW brand ....so the best of both worlds

I think the worst place I've stayed at in the last few months was the Bryntiron Inn in North Wales.  The owners are cat lovers .....nobody had to tell me this - there were cats EVERYWHERE!!!  On the tables, at your feet, on the bar etc, etc When they took me up to my room I had to step over a dish of cat food to get in it.

I was warned not to open my window during the night or I'd have cats in to join me.  As it was, when I opened the door to go down for dinner (which I couldn't eat) I had 2 feline friends on my bed instantly.  I don't mind cats, I used to have one that I loved dearly, but that place was like a journey into the League of Gentlemen!

The nicest place I've ever stayed is Temple Sowerby House Hotel in Penrith - comfortable understated luxury, excellent service and the food is amazing!  Not cheap but worth every penny.  We've had several family get togethers there as it's midway between us and my husbands family, and we had a long weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday there.  Cannot recommend it highly enough

Nicest - The Nihal in Abu Dhabi. Sheer luxury with wonderful food.

Worst: A small hotel (can`t remember the name) in Ticehurst, East Sussex. Advertised as a a 300 year old hotel..looked Shakesperian. Great!... we thought. The place was covered in dust and cobwebs with a growly old woman constantly cooking cabbage and a growling dog you had to step over to get to your room..which had a money meter for heating and old blankets on the beds. The breakfast room was like a mausoleum.

Edit to say: She slammed what was meant to be a hot breakfast ( it was cold) on to the table and shuffled off.. mumbling & growling to herself.  Nightmare.
