Good result, there's no place in our modern world for that kind of discrimination!
I've just heard it on the news. I was absolutely disgusted that the reporter said that the hotel owners said that they don't believe unmarried couples should share a room. Seriously?! -.-
I should think so too, they are in the wrong business with their attitude to gays and unmarried people
((( the hotel owners said that they don't believe unmarried couples should share a room.)))
I thought hotels rooms were built for umarried couples...

However, these guys have had a civil ceremony which is equivalent to marriage, so in technical terms they are 'married' but this couple refused to acknowledge this as they don't believe homosexuality is right. This is the reason they lost their case and rightly so.
Shame on the newspapers who said that this was entrapment on behalf of Stonewall. The judge specifically (or pacificlee) rubbished this.
I hope they now feel very embarrassed and ashamed
I'm glad the myth of entrappment has been exposed as just that. I agree with dame, if they can't bring themselves to have gay and unmarried couples to stay, they are in the wrong business. They are entitled to their religious beliefs, but when these coincide with bigotted views, they have to ask themselves some very probing questions.
What really pisses me off is that these people have the gall to hide behind calling themselves Christian. I bet Jesus would have cast them out with the moneylenders and the rest of the hypocrites.
I wonder if it is only those married in a Christian church, who are allowed a double room.
Or maybe only those married in a church of their particular denomination!

If Mr & Mrs Smith book a double room, do they have to provide a marriage certificate?
I was wondering that scotty. If not, they have only their dislike of gays to fall back on and that really wouldn't fit the Christian dogma they are talking about.
Hi btw.
Hi btw.
I foresee advertising difficulties.

Not moaning but it could be argued that by running their house as a guest house it was in fact a business and as such is open to all the rules and regulations.

They turned their home into a business (B&B), so they have to abide by the law. That includes the laws against discrimination.
And I'm not moaning - just saying.
issy i totally agree
and i dont agree with their rules
but its THEIR home
and as far as im concerned they can pick and choose who they want to stay
dont wanna go against the tide

Well said Peter Its a business and they have to abide with the law as has been said, i am so glad the couple took them to court, hope the B&B owners feel ashamed of themselves.
blimey
im on me own on this one..lol
i dont agree with them people-but surely you can pick and choose who stays
like that prog with the woman/post op who said no more male/female parties
its your gaff-so you choose who stays
if it was a big company like novotel etc..i'd be shouting the odds
but it was a private house/BB
and im sure they were set up..!!
anyway..i think you should have the right to choose who stays in your home
im on me own on this one..lol

You can, as long as you don't charge them for it!
It's not their house, it's their business. If they choose to have b&b, then they have to be able to disassociate themselves from their religious beliefs. I think those zealots need to go into a gardening business where they wont offend anybody and nobody is going to offend them.
aye aye chicken pie
alright me dear..long time..no double entendres
spelling is awful..too many pints of wife beater

pirate, you haven't answered my question.
oh well, you answered, but didn't. Typical.

pirate, its against the law for them to refuse a couple , purely because they are gay, thats how the Judge ruled for the couple. They can refuse if someone, is say, drunk, anti social etc, that is their discretion. It no longer becomes their home, when they rent a room out, it becomes a business and rules of law have to be abided by , they were wrong in this instance
cologne
i answered
actually-im a twat-but you know that
but i do honestly believe that the bigoted couple should choose

I doubt the B&B owners requested to see the marriage certificates of their hetrosexual guests.

Thats not fair pirate, but they they were within the law, on the gay issue they werent....
Pirate, if you want to be a different person from the mainstream you have to expect the shite that goes with that. but that doesn't mean that you have to take it lying down. Piercings, tatoos, gay, bi-sexual, heterosexual, none of this should play a part in todays society's desicions.
It wasn't a private home though because it was open to the public and as such they have to abide by the rules.
Quite Smarting. (Sorry, can't quote).
smarting buttocks *snigger*
yeah they did
and skylark

pirate, the bigoted couple should advertise their "beliefs" of who they are willing to accept into their sacred hotel. That would avoid inconvenience for all concerned.
