That's what I'm going to have for my tea. Hubby is out entertaining clients and I'm feeling a bit down after finding out my friend's little girl has leukemia. I think I deserve a little comfort food.

i love home made chips and curry sauce, and a butty
Sorry Trollop. It is a bit of a weird thread topic. Just feeling a bit...I dunno, weird about it I suppose.
for the little girl.... and ........ can you make a chip butty for me too please QOHT
Chip butty has been consumed. 'Mucky' chunky chips cooked in half dripping, half ground nut oil, white bread with lashings of butter, and dripping in salt and vinegar. It did succeed in cheering me up a bit.

Gosh now I'm hungry...*Drools*
for those of us who have not been fortunate enough to have had the experience, would you please tell us (me ) what is a chip butty?
Erm, a sandwich (consisting of white bread and real butter) with chips in it Do you not eat that stuff over there? Is there anything you lot DO eat? One of my best friends has lived in Medina for 8 years and she constantly complains at the lack of English grub.
I cant remember the last time I made homemade chips or fries as our American friends call them, I would love a chip butty now yum yum
Queenie hope the little girls gets speedy successful treatment and I love the sound of your chip butty done in part dripping

It's the English version of two slices of buttered bread with french fries called a sangwitch, in Scotland...it's a piece 'n chips! Everybody knows that
Oh,I used to love chip butties....with mayonnaise.
I can't eat them anymore....chips give me terrible heartburn now

Gaviscon chewable tablets are the work of God And good to see you Sarum! xx
so, bread butter, chips (french fries) then topped with bread? no gravy or ketchup or mayonnaise or something like that? I've got to admit, I'd never thought of butter on chips. The chips are warm, right? Doesn't the butter melt and turn the whole thing into a gooey mess?
It sounds interesting though.

Ahh but the best ones are made with chips from a real good chippy!
oh I love a good chip butty
Dave, chips tend to be thicker than fries, so you get more fluffy potatoness in your butty, rather than crispy fries. Chips:

I don't think you are missing much, Dave; there are few more revolting culinary creations than the chip butty. Reference: SazBomb

Agreed DiD, a fries butty just wouldn't be right. Got to be big chunky chips, steaming hot, all crispy on the outside and fluffeh in the middle. It has to be white bread and real butter, absolutely must have salt on too.
Ooh Pengy. I love crisp butties too. Mmm. might have a crisp butty now.
McCain's Fries to go are lush on a sandwich with butter and tomato sauce.
Years since I had a chip butty , God I'd love one now. With loads of salt and vinegar...yummy
No salt. Has to be made with real chips, not fries not frozen, spuds chipped deep fried in fresh sunflower oil. Real butter on fresh white bread and a sprinkle of vinegar. D E Lish *drools*

Noooooooooo Darlo. You must have the real thing. None of this frozen malarky. That will only produce a sub-standard chip butty.
The only issue for me is that it is almost impossible to make proper chips at home. Mrs Crossy and I often get black looks when we make chip butties in some of Whitby's finest eateries.
