i can see why they do it, and he doesn't help the situation.but it's gone on long enough and they need to give it a rest.
nathan and jj's point about him being canon fodder for the robot task was logical as ben has made it abundantly clear he has no interest in performing the tasks.if he's not prepared to complete a task that results in benefits for the whole group then they have to use a strategy that nullifies his lack of input.
dave needs to stop going on and on and on about the exercise task at every given opportunity and having now developed a strategy for dealing with him, they need to just let it go.
