I thought last night that Sam immediately said he wanted to go first, then the twins said they'd go next and why didn't they just go in that order.... both Dexter and Charlie said they wanted to go last but I'm certain they showed it with Charlie going third

They are saying that he went deliberately lower than the rest of them, by not picking the higher figure(s) available. That's true, but it was also true of the twins when they went in and Charlie being the last, could always have gone even lower than Dex, and Dex would have known that!
