Sorry to disagree, but I'm a bit pedantic about grammar, having studied it for the past 50 years. Fowler's English Usage is considered to be the bible on the subject. In that sentence, I is in the accusative case, which in the first person singular is 'me.'
Yea i think its because there are very few accusative cases in English anymore (why nobody uses whom anymore) thank gawd though this is siding to the correct use of accusative personal pronoun. I forgot the context of the sentence so withdraw what i said earlier Blush

Yes, and why did he keep saying 'between you and I?' Doesn't he realise it's 'between you and me?' Disappointed
because that's how it used to be, and Narcus is of an age to have been brought up to that mode of address.

It's never been right. Confused
If it's never been right then why did the BBC newsreaders have to say it like that?

I've never heard it from the BBC, but sometimes on local tv or radio. It's just bad grammar.
It maybe considered bad grammar nowadays, but I can assure you that it was considered correct grammar until the last couple of decades of the twentieth century. Smiler
Fluffy is right i was ALWAYS being corrected about that by my gran and to some extent my mum but not so bad. If you learnt a foriegn language with strict grammar rules you would know why.

I agree, I was taught to say 'You and I' at school.

Yes, 'you and I' if they are the subject of the sentence, but 'you and me' if me is the object of a sentence (yes, I've studied Latin and have a language degree). This link will explain it better than I can if you're interested:

between you and me

It's one of the most common mistakes, though, so understandable that people think it's right.
