Hi Mollie. Glad you had a good journey home, but pity it was raining.
Bit of a cop out for Lord Sugar to choose both of them?
Good to see Elizabeth again though.
Yes, got all my shopping at Sainsburys.

Hicky. I'm sure you'll look very snazzy in a Hawaiian shirt for the wedding.
Are none of your other lads going to be there?

Morning El Loro.

Yes, thats the one, it was very busy yesterday morning, it;s carpark was full, quite a striking building, thank you for the pictures and insight into the past history.

hope you enjoyed your birthday.

If the wedding is today (as it is now Monday morning for you), I hope you all have a lovely time and all goes well. What colours are your Hawaiin shirt?

Thank you for the lovely photos again, I see you are on the 17th floor, so you appear to be going down a floor or two each time you move hotel.

Glad you enjoyed your seafood resteraunt.

I wonder where you are eating for the wedding?

Emptybox

it was frosty here too this morning, and I thought the forecast said it was supposed to warm up! Cold again now tonight. Yes it was real good to see Elizabeth again, but what a surprise in that he chose both of them in the end!

How are you now? HOpe you are feeling better. Did you stay home today?

Been to Cardiff today with OH and son, as OH had day off work after the long drive over weekend. Went 9am, not too busy but by lunch time, it was awfully crowded! I was glad to get home. Bought my carers a few gifts for Christmas. Then had to go to asda to get food shopping, which also was busy. We were even lucky to get a space in the car park. I have now had enough of Christmas shopping. I will need to try and plan when it is best to go get food for the Christmas break. Maybe early one morning or last thing at night? Think we will get turkey from Lidl as it was good from there last year. I have a goats cheese and onion tart in the freezer for me.

Am watching Corrie then either Birds of a Feather or 4 year olds in Old peoples home on C4. Might watch one straight after the other on Plus 1.

Advent day 18....

and as Emptybox has now put his tree up, it is a tree. HOpe your new lights are still working ok Emptybox.

Goodnight Emptybox xxx

Good morning HIcky. Hope you enjoy the wedding and get nice things to eat.

You are clever finding that El Loro. thank you, very interesting.

Morning Both.

About 10.25 am, going to be scorching today.

Wedding later on, getting picked up by Limo at 3pm, not sure what colour shirt is, not yellow or red though.

Eating in a big place, don't know name, will find out later.

The wedding is on a beach in Honolulu somewhere.

Went to McD's for my saus and egg McM with hash brown.

Just chilin today, probably go in the spa for a bit after, sun right on the balcony now, better put sun stuff on to sit out there.

Hicky

Well enjoy the wedding later Hicky.
And don't go to sleep in the sun and miss it.

Mollie. Well done pushing through the crowds to get your Xmas shopping done.
Yes you'll have to choose a quiet time for the food shop.
More or less over my cold now, just a little cough left, and a slightly blocked up nose.
Didn't go out anywhere today as the frost stayed all day. I thought milder weather was forecast as well.

Thanks for the Christmas tree advent. This is the 4th night in a row that my Xmas lights have worked.
I watched Birds of a Feather as well.

Evening Both.

Wedding went great, went in Limo, walked through a wood to get to the beach, lovely service, a feller playing a Uke and singing, chair in the sand, all arranged great, lovely Vicar man, drinkies etc, have got a pic of the lovely couple for you.

Then back in Limo to the reception/meal, very posh/expensive but nice.

Good Morning from cloudy Waikiki, 08.27 am Tuesday 19th, will be getting my fix of McD's soon, tummy rumbling again.

This is a strange tree, the roots are hanging down from the branches, way high, probably trying to pick up some moisture, it would need it.

what great wedding piccies. The bride looks gorgeous, such a pretty frock and I love the sandals too. And of course the Hawaiin flowers of hers look so pretty, and the Hawaiin shirt for the groom is great too. Did you manage to walk through the woods to get to the beach ok? HOpe you didn't get too breathless. The beach looks lovely. Glad to hear you got a nice meal after the ceremony.

Hope you enjoy your Maccas brekkie today.

I had to how you posted a link to the BB house piccies right under the Hawaiian beach piccie.

Now that is a contrast. It should be a nice welcome back for you though with CBB starting within days of your return then Dancing on Ice a few days later.

so glad the cold has mostly cleared now. We had another frost this morning, so mild weather not here yet. Looks like you now stand a good chance those lights might work all through the season now.

Just did a bit of local food shopping today, and put washing out, then bought it in as it started to drizzle.

Watching Variety Show as not much else on. Not keen on Chrsitmas time tv, too many repeates and old films for my liking!

I did enjoy Birds of a Feather though.

Goodnight Emptybox xx

Good morning HIcky , enjoy another day in that warm weather whilst you can. xx

M

Evening folks.
Dry mild and even some sunshine today.
Got some hedge cutting and pruning done.
I think that's all the work I had lined up done, unless I get a phone call from someone.
My cold is still hanging on, giving me a bit of a cough and a blocked up nose.

Hicky.
Didn't realise that was a surfer statue at first. I thought it was a Hawaiian god or something.
I'd heard of a Banyan tree, but didn't realise it looked like that, with the roots hanging down,

Mollie. Has the mild weather reached you yet? Hope you didn't get rain today?
Yes, the lights are still working tonight.

Not sure what's on TV tonight. I guess it'll be a surprise?

sorry that cold is still hanging on. Damn nuisance these winter colds are when they do that. Let's hope it clears before its time for you go to your brothers.

Well done getting your work all done now, so time to enjoy a nice well deserved winter break.

Yes we have got the mild weather now, but unfortunately it comes with that horrid drizzle! HOpe the cold dry weather comes back soon.

I watched the Marigold thing in Iceland tonight, very interesting. Their elderly are just so fit! Must be all the fish they eat and exercise they do.

Hicky

thanks for the lovely interesting photo with the surfer statue, very interesting. Yes it is nice for the happy couple to have lots of photos to take to look back upon.

That tree is fascinating. Never seen anything like that before.

Not sure how much $35 is, but it sounds like a lot of money for a brekkie!

3 of us went for brekkie to Weatherspoons the other day and including a huge glass of orange juice and 2 free refill latees, it was ÂĢ10! I love the fact it is now so cheap to eat out here.

Good luck with the packing, hope you don't forget anything this time.

Are the happy couple travelling with you? Or is it just you and OH going on to New York? I think you will find it cold there after the warm places you have been staying. And I guess you are due for another time change, but not very much this time? Very confusing, but I know this time you will still be behind us, rather than ahead time wise.

Just checked your itinary and can't believe you have a 9 and half hour flight! I thought Hawaii as part of the USA (I think!) was not far from New York. And again you will lose a nights sleep, and arrive real early in the morning, so hope they let you into your hotel room early this time. I wonder which hotel you are staying in, as that is not in your itinary this time?

Hope you enjoy your last day in Hawaii today.  xxx

Drizzly all day today, so no dog walk or washing on the line today.

Been busy sorting carers wages and paperwork for the council tonight. Cooked roast dinner with daughter's help today. At last she has submitted her assignment so can help at home. I also helped proof read son's Uni assignment as his cut off day was today too. OH working till Friday, ,but I am hoping he gets away early.

Advent day 20, and as I forgot advent day 19, we have 2 today.

Day 19 was sparkly star...

Advent day 20...a seasonal picture....

Goodnight Emptybox xxx
Good morning to Hicky, have a good journey. xxx

both xxx

Happy Winters solstice both, at least it starts getting lighter after today.

Hicky

hope you have had a good first day in New York.I expect you are feeling tired though after flying all night. I see you are only 5 hours behind us now, so well on your way home now compared to how far away you were before. Hope you are coping ok with the sudden drop in temperature for you, as I see it is only going up to plus 6 there today. Is your hotel central? Hope you like it.

Emptybox

hope your cough is easing now, and hope you are enjoying the start of your winter break from work. Is it still mild there? It is here, but still damp and drizzly. Managed to go with dog for a quick walk, but she didn't want to stay out long as it was so damp.

Been trying to sort holiday care out for my mum. Complicated as her usual day centre is closed for a week! Going to cost us a lot in private care fees as I can't cover all week.

OH finished early today, so went food shopping in tesco, it was horrid, so crowded. So went to lidl after and it was quieter there. I do prefer lidl food and prices though. Daughter bought a large turkey crown from there for Christmas dinner.

Not much on tv, decided to watch Jenffier Saunders in france.

Goodnight Emptybox. xx

Hicky, hope you are having a good afternoon. Wonder where you are eating your tea tonight.?

M

Hi Mollie.
Yes, another mild day here and dry.
Washed my van and did some housework; dusting and hoovering etc.
Last of cold still hanging on.

I see from Twitter that Hicky arrived in NY, but i think his plane was delayed.
Although the Hawaiian islands are the 50th US state, they are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, about 5000 miles from NY.

Thanks for the advents. Yes, the days should start getting longer after today.
Pity the holiday care for your Mum will work out expensive.
At least you've got your Xmas food shop out of the way.
Pity you've been getting all the drizzle.

Watched Supervet at Christmas then Undateables.

emptybox

HI Hicky.
The advertising lights in Times Square are iconic.
Hope it's a nice hotel. You're very high up again anyway.

That's one huge hunk of meat you've got there in front of you? Bet even you couldn't finish it off?

Nice mild sunny day here. Will be going into town later for a few things.

Good Morning Emptybox.

It's rather a posh place this, lovely room etc, high beds like Hawaii, top is about 3ft from the floor, could get hurt if fall out of bed.

That hunk of meat was a side of smoked pork ribs, and as expected never made much inroad as we all had a shared starter which more or less filled me anyway.

Had a Budweiser to drink rather than my usual water.

Will have to get a Beanie as weather pretty grim here, a slight change from the last few weeks, 8c here today and cloudy.

Got a place booked for a meal this afternoon to watch the match, Son & O/H football mad, me and DIL not so, but we all love food.

Hicky

Emptybox

glad you got mild and sunny too. We got mild but misty/drizzly again.

Hope you got your shopping ok, was it very busy?

That is interesting that Hawaii is an American state, yet 5000 miles from New York!

Hicky

What lovely photos, the plane one is so good and clear.

But 46th floor, that is so high up!

And the bed too, watch you don't roll out of it in the night!

Glad you seem to be getting good supplies of food there. Is it expensive to eat out there?

It is certainly light there with all those bright billboards.

Hope you got a beanie ok, yes you will be feeling the cold after the heat in the last places you have stayed in.

Hope you enjoy your meal out this afternoon even though you are not keen on the football. Does you lad and your OH usually follow the American football, or are you just going to see it as you are there visiting ?

Are the Christmas lights pretty in New York?

Been busy today sorting carers payslips out and pressies and cards. One of them gave me a bottle of her home made mango wine.

Then had to go to docs surgery to pick up mum's prescription for some thickener to add into her fluids, as with the dementia she has a problem swallowing fluids. If they are slightly thickened, she can swallow them without coughing.

While I was there I asked about my bloodshot eye, chemist says it is infected so I bought some eye drops. She said if it does't clear in 7 days I need to see doc. It it so irritating.

Took doggie a walk down the seafront. Very quiet there today, I think everyone was packed out in the shops instead!

Advent day 22.....and it is Christmas puppy.

Goodnight Emptybox. hope you have had a good day. xx
Good afternoon HIcky...hope you have a good day. xxx
M

Hi both.

Yes very busy in Sainsburys. I went to get diesel for the van, then a few bits and pieces inside. Had to use the self service tills, which I hate. And had to drive round the carpark to find a place, which isn't usually a problem on a Sunday when I go.

Hicky. Yes you'll need warmer clothes there. About a 5 degree high for me, so you are still slightly warmer.

Is this an American football match your Oh and son wants to see? I don't have any interest in football (US or UK) either.

Mollie. Sorry to hear you've got an eye infection. Not good just before Xmas. Hope it clears up.

Thanks for the wee dug advent.

That was nice of one of the carers to give you some home made wine.

Watched 'Celebrity 5 Go In Search Of Santa'....not sure why?

Evening Both.

Sirens, sirens, they never seem to stop here.

The football match is on the big screen in a pub/restaurant, you book a table to dine and watch the match, a very busy place.

I have a picture of the front, it's name is an ex player, Carragher, very British & busy and hard to get seats but has all the classic meals from the uk.

I now have a scarf and furry type hat with side flaps, need another one now with no sides.

Tips are advised and shown on the bill when you get food in a restaurant, the person takes the card and the bill away, then brings the bill back for you to write in the tip, 15/18 or 20%, the card has been opened and gets closed when you sign the bill and show the tip, not sure why, but you don't use your pin number in the USA when you pay the bills.

-----------

Hello from NYC, 19.17 here, not bad weather, bought a scarf and hat with nice sides to keep me warm, 9c though.
went to a Famous pub/restaurant, Carraghers to watch the match, Liverpool of course, nice food and drinks.
Quite a walk though for me, 8 blocks, a block is 80 mtrs.
Very crowded with Liverpool fans, hard to get a seat, we had booked.

The place we watched the Liverpool Match

On the way.

Crowds of people

more displays.

More displays

The place is just so lit up, crazy, just down from Times Square.
So many people, some times it's hard to get to the crossing while the green signal is on, but the people don't stop crossing, chaos.

Hi Hicky.
Oh it was a UK football match? I suppose a British pub in NY would show UK footie?
Glad you got a nice meal anyway, so it wasn't a total waste of an evening.
Pity it was such a long walk for you.

That's good that you've now got a warm hat and scarf. Can you not just tie the sides of the hat up to the top, if they're not needed?
Yes, I'd heard there was a big culture of tipping in the US. Wouldn't fancy giving them my card to take away though. But I guess you've got to trust them?

Don't think chip and pin ever caught on in the US for some reason.
The chips they put in aren't very good anyway. I've had 3 cards where the chip stopped working after just a couple of years.

Lovely pics again. Who is the figure in green on the left of the tall buildings one.
Is it someone dressed as the Statue of Liberty? (or is it Batman? )

A bit windy here today, but sunny and mild.

emptybox

Good Morning Emptybox.

Only 5 hrs behind you now, 12c here, high humidity rain, cloud.

Will see if i can find out who those are in the picture, not sure.

The side flaps on the head gear don't fasten up like some, i know what you mean.

Will have to find some brekkie, not sure what though, strange foods here, they seem to have everything mixed in all the foods making it worse than it is when they started, they just can't give you unadulterated food, o/h has an awful job finding something to eat.

I've seen a stand in the road cooking Satay, well it looked like that, will look into it as i love it, never got it in Singapore for 1 reason or another.

These are lovely beds, the mattress is about 1ft thick or more, as long as you don't fall off as the base is massive.

Hicky

both xxx

Emptybox

hope you are enjoying your winter break from work.

Still mild here too today, but it is drizzly  again.

Not much to watch on tv tonight is there?

I want to get the kareoke out on the playstation but the rest of the family don't seem keen. No surprised really as I am an awful singer!

Hicky

what a shame the food is not to your OH's taste, it probably wouldnt be to mine too then, as I only like basic food, not spicy or garlicky. Hope you manage to find something for her. Does she like pizza? that can be plain.

Hope you like the satay stand, as that is what you usually like to eat .

Thanks for the photos, gosh you are a long way up in that hotel! And it looks so busy there! Not sure if I fancy dealing with all those crowds! Being in Wales, I am not used to crowds now.

Those thick matresses there sound nice and comfy.

Glad you got your hat. HOpe it helps keep you nice and warm

How strange you go all the way to New York, then they watch an English footie match in their pub there!

Hope you are having a good day there again today.

We went out for brekkie today at the weatherspoon, we thought it might be busy but it wasn't at all.

Mum was with the carers all day which I was glad about as I had a bad head all day yesterday and my eyes were bad.Eyes seem a bit better today though, I get OH to put the drops in as I don't like to.

Found something to watch Emptybox.

I see one of our faves is on, Jayne Mcdonald on her cruising.

Goodnight Emptybox xxx

Have a good afternoon in New York HIcky xxx

Advent day 23 - and its a bright happy piccie.

M

Hi Mollie.

O/H has overdone her knee walking this morning to a shop to get something she wanted, i stayed in as it was raining, can't afford to slip.

Son brought some Pizza back from seeing a show, so she enjoyed a slice of that, it was a 16" one.

We had Nachos as a starter when watching the match, wow, what a plate of food, we all shared it but it put me off eating the meal.

they do a nice Latte on the ground floor, to get outside you have to go down an escalator with all your cases, strange what.

Glad you reminded me about the Satay stand, will see i, they were all built around it.

f my lad remembers where it was.

This Broadway is actually 32 miles long, it was the first ever road here in 1640 thats why it runs the route it does, it doesn't follow the Avenues and streets.

It's good when your mum is with the carers, at lest it gives you a small break, sorry about your eyes, you need to look after them.

Amazed at my waterworks behaving, very pleased indeed, will ask about the new inhalers when i get back, taking them once a day must help my throat.

Thanks for the lovely advent picture, really geared up for Christmas here.

It's a Liverpool pub really, Carragher was one of the Liverpool Players.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Carragher

Hicky

Evening both.

Hicky. That's some view from the 46th floor.
Pity your OH's knee is playing up, but great that your waterworks aren't.
Didn't realise that about Broadway. That's has a lot of theatres doesn't it?

Mollie. Good that the carers could have your Mum today.
That's good that your eye is improving, but not good about the headache.
I've been getting quite a few headaches the last few days. Not sure if it's a hangover from my bad cold, or if it's something to do with my medication?
That's a nice advent.

Didn't notice Jane McDonald was on. I watched the Hobbit film instead.
Will be going to my Brother's for a couple of days, but should be able to reply from there anyway.

Evening Emptybox. :

Yes, loads of theatres on Broadway, pretty famous name.

Will get a better view tomorrow from another window if weather is better, very damp and gloomy today, quite dark in the room, had to keep the lights on.

Didn't go out, got food from room service, my lad got me another Beanie hat, had a spicy soup and a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, the shrimp is a prawn.

Got o/h a pizza but she didn't like it was son brought a big one in between them.

Hicky

both

Emptybox

hope you had a good journey to your brothers.

So pleased to hear you are not cut off there like you are at your uncles, so you will still be in touch with us.

It should be a nice treat for you to have someone else doing the cooking for you. Are your nephews likely to be around? Do you take their dog out at all?

Hope your family have a similiar taste in tv to you, else it could get a little boring for you?

Hicky

sorry to hear your OH has a painfull kneee. Hope it has improved a little by now.

That is lucky your waterworks are behaving, those new meds you had before you left home seem to of been a good help regarding that.

Sounds like your OH is not getting a very varied diet there, but good job she does like some of the pizzas there.

Hope the weather is a bit better today, so you can get out a little.

Gosh a road 32 miles long, that is one long road! I have heard about Broadway and all the shows they have there, but didn't realise it was the road name.

Drizzly here today ,so doggie did not enjoy her little walkies at all today, we soon came back again!

Popped into tesco first thing, it was very busy, but by the time we left, most were leaving.

Going to mums first thing tomorrow, then going to see the Chrsitmas swim, there was over 900 siwmmers last year! Then home and daughter is making Christmas lunch for us all, so me and OH get a break.

Goodnight Emptybox, have a good evening with your brother. xxx

Have a good afternoon in New York HIcky. xxx

M

Have a good Christmas Eve everyone.
Hope it goes well at your Brothers Emptybox.

17.54 here, just been on a trip around the Hudson River to see the NYC landmarks, wow, saw the Stature real close from the boat, rather cold on the top deck, forgot my scarf.
Had a lovely meal in Bill's restaurant close to the World Trade Centre site.
Took lots of pics, will show a few here taken from my phone.

Here's a better one of the roads from the hotel.

A long way down.

Some of Brooklyn Bridge.

Hicky

Happy Christmas Mollie and Hicky.

And anyone else visiting the thread.

Bit drizzly here, but not too cold.

Just enjoying a quiet Xmas morning at my Brother's. Both nephews here, but too old/cool to show any excitement nowadays.

Dog too old for long walks now, but she's bright enough, and enjoying her new Xmas toy.

Only things I'm bothered about watching are Dr Who and Victoria, and I'm recording them at home anyway. Not sure if they'll watch them here?

Nice pics Hicky. Hope you have a nice Xmas in NY. Are you having a restaurant dinner?

Looks like a ticket for 'Wicked' in your window?

That was a good idea to see the landmarks by boat. Silly to forget your new scarf though.

Mollie. That's nice that daughter is making the meal. My Bro's the chef here.

One of these years you'll have to join in with the Xmas swim, rather than just spectating.

They have similar thing in Scotland called the Looney Dook, where people go into the sea in the Firth of Forth. Think it might be at New Year though?

In Scottish dialect 'dook' means dip, whereas swim would be 'soom'.
