The sport mode works electronically I think? It makes the car change down quicker, and holds on to the lower gears longer to give better acceleration. But as you say, it uses up more fuel.
I never use it. I tested it when I took over the car two years ago, but I doubt I've used it since.
I'm hoping it might be that the mechanic just forget to re-connect a lead or something, because otherwise I certainly don't want to have any more repair costs at this time.
The only thing is, if I come to sell the car, it's important that all the electronics are working to get the best price.
I'm contemplating going out with my small mower in the boot, but it's not nearly as good as my normal one on damp grass, and also will take much longer to cut a lawn.
Also I'm not sure I want my customers to see me in a Jag? They're used to seeing me in a white van. They might start thinking they are paying me too much.
It's overcast and windy here, but we haven't had any rain as yet.
I see the housemates have had their screening of the film 'Fright Night', and 2 actors from the film went into the house, as well as some viewers dressed in skeleton costumes.
Hi Mollie.
Hope you're not getting bogged down in all the paperwork for this new move?
Hi Emptybox.
The sport mode more than likely is electronic.
I've got a set of lower range settings, but it's more for off road, don't really see whats the point in a Jag, the car is always in the right gear anyway.
It wouldn't be good to turn up in a Jag really.
They would be saying, your doing all right mate,
I see they have to act as twins today, but it may be on tomorrow.
Hope Mollie is ok.
I did actually get quite a bit done in the end. The mower only just fits in. You have to position it just right to get the boot properly closed. Also I had to leave a bag of rubbish at a customers, to pick up when I get the van back.
I parked the car slightly out of the way all the time, so I don't think the customers noticed it. They didn't say anything anyway.
Trouble is, I've only one other big bag that's suitable to leave, so if they keep the van after tomorrow I'll be more constrained in which jobs I can do. Still, the little mower is making a better job than I thought it would.
Looking forward to BB tonight.
This surprise eviction tomorrow must be Pam v Darryn then, so what id happening Friday then, we always have an eviction Friday?
Didn't see your post till I'd posted Emptybox.
At least you got some work done
I suppose it depends on whats up with the van, you need to know that first.
Good job the little mower will fit, at least it gives you a chance to get a bit done.
I've changed days again, the woman in the office is off Friday so I'll go in, so I'm off wednesday & Thursday this week, was in today.
Just watched last nights Bit on the side that I had recorded.
But if it's on 5* like tonight I'll have to watch it on demand tomorrow.
Hi all
Emptybox
hope you can sort that thing out with your Jag.Glad you have at last got it back though. Good job you managed to fit the mower in the car. at you parking it some way away. Let's hope you get the van back soon though.
Yes I officially work PT for my OH's business because I do all the business paperwork. Found out why the agents were so keen to get me tenant refererence checked though, even though I told them they didn't need to check my wages, they charged us ÂĢ45 each for these checks, that say online only cost LL's ÂĢ6.95 each! A nice bit of dosh in the estate agents pocket for doing nowt, but hold the process up. Despite 2 phone calls to me giving them my accountants phone number, still no answer on it, fed up with them now.
Hicky
hope you son is pleased with the sheds when they come. I know how much room the kids stuff takes up. Are you off to the carvary at all this week?
A nice new cafe opened on the cliff walk we like, so we enjoyed a nice latte and home made cake yesterday whilst walking the doggie. Very breezy there, but dry at least.
Wonder why the HM's don't seem to like Pamela? I like her. She seems inoffesnive. What a weird lot they are on the whole though. Still I am enjoying the show though.
Emptybox..I remember channel 5 advertising the competition for the public to win a place to see this film with the HM's. That would of been fun. Film a bit too scary for me though.
Enjoy the show both.
No I don't like these modern horror films. Too gory. I'd never heard of the actors either. Luckily we didn't see any of the film, but there were loads of bods dressed as skeletons.
It's a bit rich these agent§ charging you for their search. It should be up to the owner to pay. You should just have to pay the deposit and the rent. That's what I think anyway, and you can tell them i said so.
That's handy, a nice cafe opening on your dog walk. It must be a popular walk.
Evening Mollie & Emptybox.
Built one of the sheds Mollie, waiting for the other to come.
Need a load of decking for him as well.
Will try and get a bit at a time.
Going to Llangollen tomorrow, MIL was promissed a day out by O/H, so we may go and have a meal there.
You could be right about those dressed as skeletons.
Loved the twist tonight, at least Amy is safe for a bit longer.
Thats great getting a new cafe on the cliff walk.
Going to work Friday.
Quite a nice day here for the last day of summer. I count the 1st of September as the start of Autumn.
Got a few more jobs done in the car.
I got a phonecall about the van. They said the belt tensioners weren't working properly so they changed those, but the noise was still there, so they wanted to change the water pump, which I agreed to. It should be ready by tomorrow afternoon or Friday.
I also asked about the sport mode.on the Jag. He said he didn't think it was connected to his previous repair, but it might just be a lead got knocked off?
Well done in getting the shed up Hicky. You're a glutten for punishment, getting stuck into decking again. Good luck!
Good morning both xx
Hicky
hope you have a lovely day out in Llangollen. We know that place quite well, because we used to drive through there a lot on the way to OH's relatives. Hope the weather is good up there today. That didn't take you long to get that shed up. But of course, you are the expert by now.
Emptybox
Glad the van isn't going to be away as long as the car does. Hope it does't come in too expensive. My OH took our 7 seater in for the stalling problems, bloke thinks it will be complicated and expensive to fix it, so OH will have to press on trying to find another family car. Shame because he was hoping it would last a bit longer, but not worth spending a lot on it now.
We heard at last that our forms had gone through for the house. I am going to be extra busy now because my mum's LL has now decided he wants to sell, so I have to find another place for her too. The place she has is a bit big for her, so hope to find somewhere a bit more suitable.
hope you both have the good weather we have here today.
have a good day. xxx
Nice day here, so I got a few more jobs done with the little mower. Unfortunately my van isn't ready yet, so I shall have to do more tomorrow in the car. Hopefully the van will be ready by Saturday, because there's a couple of bigger jobs due, that aren't suitable for the little mower.
Hope you had a good day in Llangollen hicky.
Good news that the forms for your new house have come through Mollie, but bad news that you've now got to find somewhere for your Mum as well, and buy a new car at the same time.
Evening Mollie & Emptybox.
It's been a lovely day, wall to wall sun all day.
Got to Llangollen, very nice town/village some nice shops, had a meal, picked the wrong place.
Stayed a few hours, will go again to go on the boat and the steam train, went via the Horse she pass on the way home, wow, some big hills, car didn't seem to notice.
Hope they sort the van out, as you say, you need it back.
Glad your forms are sorted Mollie, i see your starting again with Mother, oh well, more work for you.
Work tomorrow for me, but had a couple of good days off.
Looking forward to CBB tonight.
Pamela comes across good since she came out.
Didn't realise she had been ill for day, they didn't show or tell us that.
Hi both
quick post..power cut due again for the morning in 15 mins.
OH's half day , we are off to view flat for my mum , within walking distance of our new place so fingers crossed.
Hicky
glad you enjoyed day out, yes, horse shoe pas beautiful. Was the meal place not good then?
hope work is not too busy. I too like Pamela, they were mean to her in the house. tonights show should be good.
Emptybox
pity about having to use car again for work , hope you do get it back saturday.
off before I am cut off,
have a good day. xxx
Evening Mollie & Emptybox.
Wasn't too bad at work, was kept moving all day but got away early.
Boss said my job was mine for as long as I want it, and the only one who can terminate it will be me.
Strange having flowers on the Pear tree again.
Wonder if Bobby will go tonight? either him or Tara.
My Lad just rang to see if I wanted to go he's putting the BBQ on.
I'll go round and see him and the kids.
Nice of them to give you notice anyway, I suppose? I am always getting short, unscheduled cuts, which mess the computers up.
Hope the flat was suitable for your Mum?
Hi Hicky. I bet that was nice for you to hear, from your boss.
Hope you had a good BBQ.
Rain this morning. I got the van back mid-afternoon, in time to do some work.
I took the Jag back to the garage and drove the van away. He is going to check there is not a wire loose on the Jag, but I've said that if it's more than that, not to bother.
The bad news is that the van still has the high pitched noise, same as before. They have changed the belt tensioner and the water pump, and they even replaced the alternator under it's warranty and checked the belts, so the only thing making the noise could possibly be the power steering pump. However that seems to be working oK and isn't leaking, so it would be uneccesary and expensive to replace it yet.
I suppose I will just have to put up with the noise, in the knowledge that it's not serious, and even if the power steering broke, I could still drive the van into the garage
Evening Emptybox.
Lousy weather all day today.
Went to B&Q and ordered a load of Joists for my lad, they are 4.8m x 150 x 50 mm with some ground spikes for support and joist support brackets.
Glad you got your van back, strange whats going on with that.
Don't think it's much wrong with the Jag, something disturbed.
Hope Mollie is having a good weekend, sorting and moving houses is a nightmare.
Yes it was showery here as well. I didn't get the work done that I wanted.
Went into town for a shorrt time, but didn't do much else.
X-Factor was good. Thon lassie fae Buckie wis fair stoatin. (the one that did the Adele song)
BB should be good tomorrow, with the 90s girl and boy bands?
Morning Mollie & Emptybox.
It's lovely here today, not like yesterday anyway.
Been Sunny all morning.
Pity you didn't get your work done as planned.
Some good singers this year thats for sure, Jade who sang last was fantastic, everyone was crying, and me.
Enjoyed watching Amy, about the only thing left for me now, she's tall isn't she?
Very pretty even without makeup, i wonder whats next then with Lucian, what about Kerry, she likes him but knows he's too young.
Looking forward to tonight, will have to watch the last night BBBOTS on 5* Demand.
Hope Mollie is ok.
Hi Hicky.
It's a lovely day here as well. And it was a warm night last night. I needed my bedroom window open. First time for weeks.
Yes Jade was the girl I was meaning. I see in the papers the producers have told her to change her image if she wants to stand a chance of winning?
I'm starting to like Amy as well Hicky. I always thought she was attractive, but I think she's got a bit about her now as well.
Her, Kerry or Darryn for me.
I can't say I like lucien. He's too much of a player.
Off to the supermarket in a bit, then I might cut my own grass this afternoon?
Mollie, I hope you aren't having too stressful a weekend?
Evening Emptybox.
The producers always want to change the contestants, don't agree myself, it can work against them.
I enjoy watching Amy hope we get to see more of her.
Not really bothered about the others.
2 minutes to go.
Just watching Nelsons Navy on C4
Hope Mollie is OK.
Hi both
HIcky
sounds like you are busy in your lads garden now. Let's hope for some dry weather so you can both get on with things.
Emptybox
what a shame your van is still making a big noise. I hope it carries on going for you though as you must have it for work.
I still like the twins on CBB. They were so funny buying all those sweeties in Lidl. Lucien just gets on my nerves, agree Emptybox, a player there all right, going from woman to woman looking for any woman to give him a bit of publcity with a show romance.
Hope we get some interesting HM. when we got the public go in.
Had a very busy few days, Saturday we went to see West Side story, and have spent last 3 days driving round and viewing places for my mum. Difficult for someone elderly. Her current agent has phoned me today and says she has a house coming up just round the corner from our new place, so fingers crossed this one will be ok, most of the others were rubbish.
am annoyed they have cancelled one of the Corrie episodes because of this stupid millionaire show on ivt yet again . Was hoping it was finished last night.I saw something in the news that this show had given a million to someone who was who had been convicted for violence.
I too enjoyed X factor, they seem to have some great talent on it this year. Yes it is a shame producers feel they have to change their image, as they are already good.
have a good evening xx
Evening Mollie.
Loads of work to do at my lads, but it's easier when you've done a load already.
The twins are crazy ok, way ott.
It's as if they are programmed to mess everything up.
It is dificult finding a place for your mum.
I read about that red/black winner having being convicted but he was entitled to play so thats that, 2nd chance etc.
Hope the van stuck it out for Emptybox.
Looking forward to CBB tonight.
Nice day here. A few spots of rain, but mostly sunny. Got one of my big jobs done. The grass is still growing like mad here.
Hi Mollie. Hope that place for your Mum turns out.
I just watched that Red or Black for the first time tonight. It's OK. Quite fun I suppose, but I prefer quizzes with general knowledge questions, so I can show off.
Not that i've got anyone to show off to, but the cat was always impressed when she was here.
I'm just going to forget about the noise in the van and put my music up loud I think. It sounds like a siren at times from inside. No idea what people outside can hear, but my Brother said he could hear it as I drove off the other week.
I just got the bill for the work on my Jag. The best part of ÂĢ500.
Morning Emptybox.
It's cold, dull, miserable here today, windy as well.
That red/black game is a bit soft, at least you don't need a brain to play, maybe that's why they are doing it.
Everyone is equal now.
Not sure what generates the income though?
Don't understand the noise in the van, but most noises mean there's a problem, but of course it may not de doing damage, but it would be nice to know whats causing it.
That seema bit stiff for the Jag, but they will be expensive parts on that.
They probably didn't need to replace as much as they did anyway.
What did they charge you for?
Hope Mollie has a good day.
Must got to the kitchen and get some toast and brekkie.
Showery and windy here. Just waiting to see if it's going to dry up so I can get out.
The garage are convinced the noise in the van is down to a faulty valve in the power steering pump. That would be another expensive repair. It'll almost certainly have to be replaced at some point in the future, but I'm hoping to put a bit of distance between that and the current round of expensive repairs.
Yes, it's the parts that were expensive for the Jag. ÂĢ280 for an oil cooler for the automatic transmission, and ÂĢ35 for a hose for it. Plus an 'O' ring and automatic transmission fluid, and the rest was labour.
Only good thing is that I probably won't get the bill for the van till the end of september.
Evening Emptybox.
A faulty valve, maybe, hard to tell unless you've heard the same noise before.
Never heard a noise coming from a valve before, what kind of valve makes a noise?
Why did the Jag need an oil cooler?
Whats that got to do with the problem you had?
Had no Sun here today, went for a Carvery at 5.30.
Had been round at my lads, got a few more bits from B&Q, needed some joining pieces to join 150x50 joists end to end.
Took some gardening tools round with some weedkiller and spray.
His second shed came today, we can probably erect next time we are both off, will take a few hours again.
Hope Mollie had a good day.
Work tomorrow for me.
It cleared up a bit here, so I got some work done, but we've had more rain this evening.
I'm not very mechanically minded Hicky, so I'm kind of at the mercy of what the garage says. I wouldn't have thought a valve would make that noise, and it seems to get louder with the accelerator, so i don't see wh\t that has to do with the power steering,, but there you are?
As to the jag. The original problem was a leak of power steering fluid, which didn't require any parts to fix, but they said the automatic transmission oil cooler was also leaking and needed replacing, so I can only go on what they say. I didn't even know it had an oil cooler.
I also don't know why they are still keeping the car when they were only supposed to be checking for a loose wire. I told them I didn't want another expensive repair.
I can see that you are getting into sorting out your son's garden, just like you did with your own one?
Don't work too hard tomorrow.
Hi emptybox.
Lots of stuff that tied to engine will follow the accelerator so it could be lots of pieces of equipment, you need a trained ear or a listening stick under the bonnet when the engine is running to try and narrow down where the noise is coming from.
These days they just replace everything within a mile radius and hope it cures the problem.
The power steering pump will be tied to engine speed one way or another anyway, so even if it was that the noise would go up and down with the accelerator.
The Auto box does have an oil cooler, it gets very hot because the oil is driving the car, it will be under great pressure and will be passed through a cooler, it may even run through the radiator in seperate pipes as well.
Wonder if they have found the problem with the Jag, as you say, you don't want to spen much more.
It hasn't been too bad at work, at least I should get a few days off this week.
Hope Mollie had a good day as well.
The boss wants me in tomorrow now.
That's a blow, never mind, didn't have anything lined up.
Hi Hicky.
That's a pity, having to work tomorrow.
Never mind, just think of it as all the more for your B&Q fund.
Very showery today. I did get my work done, but got wet a couple of times as well.
Yes, when they were fixing the Jag they took off the front bumper and valance, and they've put new hose type stuff in by the radiator.
I see the new sainsburys in Kelso is well on the way to completion. Looks like it might have a filling station as well. It says it opens on the 19th of October, so I'll look forward to that.
It doesn't feel like it's the final of CBB tomorrow? It's not been a very exciting series.
I've put in a few votes for Kerry and amy, but I think Jedward have it in the bag.
Was watching 'Who Do You Think You Are' with Emillia Fox earlier. Very good.
Hi all
sorry not been around much, and unlikely to be, as chaous reins now.
we get the keys for the new place Friday, hope we have more luck with this move. It seems to be a nice house, and a nice little walk down a lane stright onto the beach. Let's just hope we can get some nice weather to enjoy it when we do get in there.
No luck for my mum yet, trying to find somewhere small for her, but in a nice area, is not easy. Going to see some more places Friday. Tommorrow we are at therter, didn't realise when we go tickets it would be so close to a move. Seeing Blood Brothers again, one of our fave musicals.
Hicky
hope they dont work you too hard, all helps towards the garden fund though doesn't it?
Emptybox
shame about the cost of the car. OH just had to spend ÂĢ240 on our old one just to keep it going till we can find another one, So expensive running a car now.
Although I am busy I am managing to see CBB. Will be happy to see the twins win, am fed up of the Lucien/Amy/Kerry stuff...I reckon those 3 have been acting more childish than the twins with the who "fancies" who rubbish. But I have enjoyed watching the show as light entertainment though. Let's hope the real BB is a bit more entertaining though.
Sounds like again we will have to wait for our broadband to be connected after moving. What is it with these people? Phone lines and broadband can take up to 16 working days. Lucky this house already has a BT line in it this time though, but we still have to wait for broadband, hope it wont be too long.
have a good evening. xx
I hope this house works out better for you. Having the beach so near sounds super.
Just hope you have thoroughly vetted the neighbours this time?
Hope you find somewhere nice for your Mum too.
I don't have very high hopes for this BB. All under thirty, all English? Just seems to me channel 5 haven't put the effort in? Even with CBB they promised twists that never materialized, secret evictions that weren't secret.
My Sunday Express magazine had a little peice on Pamela Anderson, and said tht she was going into the CBB house for the final week.. That must have been on the cards because the Express is the same group as Desmond's Channel 5, but they must have changed their minds for some reason?
Anyway, enjoy your theatre show. The calm before the storm, as it were.
Morning Mollie & Emptybox.
That will be handy if you get a Sainsbury's, always good food to be had.
I think Jedward will probably win but i'm still rooting for Amy, saw her dressed up last night for a party, wow, did she look good.
Good Luck with this house Mollie, weather, well, can't do much about that.
It's hard to find a small play for your Mum, but something may turn up.
Don't know why BT are so hopeless.
My lad changed contracts when he moved as they gave him a new deal, they will be sending him a new modem as well, he also gets the tv channels from them, but they don't seem to be able to change his address, he keeps telling them to change it but it won't change.
They said they are sending the gear to an address he lived in 5 years ago, they really are dim.
Looking forward to tonight and tomorrow night.
Showery again here this morning, but i got quite a lot done.
Still no sign of the car.
Quite shocked that Jedward only came third, but glad Kerry came second.
I see Pamela Anderson is going in now, so my Sunday mag just got the timing wrong.
Hope you had a good day at work Hicky, even if you weren't expecting to go in?
I think you said you were due to get the keys to your new house today Mollie? You must be excited to get in and get started?
Hi both xx
Hicky
no suprise to hear your lad is having trouble with BT. Luckily they already had a BT line in this time, so we have just taken over the number, but we have to wait for broadband now. Hope it is not too long.
Emptybox
glad you got quite a bit done yesterday. Dull and damp here yet again.
Hope you hear about the car today.
Do you like Pamela Anderson? Must admit I don't know much about her at all. Never watched Baywatch. Do you think she will be interesting, or is just a bit gimicky.
Why on earth is it an all English, under 30's HM's one, i wonder? Some of the older ones have been the most entertaining HM's.
I am so busy and stressed, so won't be around much now.
Collect the keys today, then try and move out asap, but nothing is packed yet, and i still havent found a place for my mum. Luckily 2 friends of ours are coming over this afternoon to help us shift stuff, and we will all go to the pub for dinner, so at least no cooking today.
hopefully will fit in some BB viewing by tonight though.
have a good day both xxx
Evening Mollie & Emptybox.
BB starts again in a few minutes.
Went to Costco taday for some goodies.
I was shocked Jedward didn't win, so you can imagine how many votes Paddy got then.
Pamela is OK, a bit old now of course.
Hope there's some young pretty things to look at.
Made a curry ealier, had 2 crab claws, got some big prawns.
Got plenty of meat as well.
Going to Morrisons for brekki with my O/H and my lad with his lad, then we are going to build another shed then do some decking joist work.
Don't get too stressed Mollie, pop in when you can.
A list of the 14 HM's
1. Mark
2. Maisy
3. Aaron
4. Heaven
5. Tom
6. Tashie
7. Aden
8. Alex
9. Harry
10.Rebeckah
11.Anton
12.Faye
13.Jay
14.Louise
Hi guys.
Wet early on, but a nice afternoon, so I got some work done.
I got the car back, but they haven't done anything to it. They didn't find any lloose wires or anything, so I'll just have to put up with the sports mode not working.
Not sure why they kept it all week, but I think the guy that was working on it was off for a couple of days?
Not too bad a lineup on BB? Some attractive girls anyway. A bit short sighted of CH5 only putting in young ones and all English, but there are a couple of Geordies, and they are nearly Scots.
I think Pam Anderson will just be a gimmick. I hear she's guested on a few BBs around the world.
Did you manage to get that shed built Hicky?
Mollie, hope you managed to enjoy BB despite the stress?
Evening.
Not too bad a day here. I got one of my big jobs done but got rained on in the middle of it, but it's sunny again now.
I'm a bit worried about this stormy weather that's coming at the begining of the week.
Looks like I might not get much work done while it lasts.
Watching the Strictly launch show. Some good competitors on there. Holly Valance is gorgeous, and Lulu looks fantastic as well.
Looking forward to BBBOTS tonight as Aisleyne will be on.
Evening Emptybox.
Strange about your car, wonder whats up?
I'm happy with the BB girls, i don't want older ones myself, think they spoil it.
We built the sshed, this makes it the 6th we have built between us.
We started at Morrisons for brekki, then went for fuel then B&Q then built the shed.
The stormy weather coming isn't good.
I bought some fastening gear to hold down the frame of the Gazebo roof.
IT's a luggage strap for tightening a load onto a small wagon, 400kg, I fastened a ring plate to the decking and fastened the 2 clip on hooks then stated ratcheting the strap to tension it.
Looking forward to BB tonight, watching Bin Laden.
Won'tbe able to see bbots till it's on 5* demand.
Hope Mollie isn't getting too stressed.
