Belated Happy Birthdays.
Sorry I didn't remember.
I usually remember Hicky's, but only cos it's the same day as my Brother's......and also cos I get a reminder from Myspace.
Glad you had a great day with your Mum. And even better news for your OH.
You must be relieved that he doesn't have to travel far.
I did the same with my guitar as your OH. I got it when I was sixteen, and got a course on rock guitar on cassette, but got stuck and never got any further.
I still pick it up and twiddle away all the time, but I never learned the basics of scales and chords etc.
Watching the 'Over the Rainbow' show.
Charlie Church is looking fantastic, but she couldn't get a word in over the other two judges.
thanks for the belated birthday greetings. With all the sorting out of the work contract yesterday, I forgot to mention my birthday here. Not moaning though, the contract was well needed.
Hicky
at least getting to work that early gives you a bit of time to wake up.
Emptybox...
my daughter has a cd to help learn the chords of the guitar, and she has lessons sometimes when we go to the home ed group. Are you learning from a book or cd?
Yes, I too watched that Over the Rainbow, and enjoyed it. I too noticed how glam Charlotte Church looks, and I remarked to my OH how she couldn't get a word in.
I was just learning a few riffs from this website.
http://www.riffinteractive.com/
Not sure if it's being maintained, but there's some good stuff on there.
I've still got the cassette course, so i could dig that out if necessary, but really I just wanted to show off a bit, the next time I saw the nephews.
A quiet day today, went to the garden centre for a bite and an ice cream.
Have got a few Samosa for later.
Next door are putting a new fence up, using the old concrete posts and replacing all the wood.
Quite a big job of course.
It's been a lovely sunny day here.
I was servicing and changing the oil on my mower ready for the new season.
I'm not going to start next week, but the week after that could see some grass cutting, in the town, at least.
Also I was digging over a patch in my garden ready for putting some potatoes in.
I'll wait a bit to plant them though, cos they are predicting it to get colder next week, with perhaps some sleet or snow.
I've got my seed potatoes under the bed in the spare room, and I see they are starting to sprout now.
Enjoy your samosas Hicky. It's my Bolognese night.
It went for the princely sum of 99 new pence.
I willnae get rich quick at this rate.
Had some visitors this afternoon.
My SIL with her 2 new knee's, still painful and has trouble with Arthritis in her hand/finger joint's which is a big problem.
Then one of my lads came with his 3 young ones.
Yhe have gone now.
O/H got some plaice fillets this morning so I'll have some of them.
I think you should pound up the rows for your spuds and space them so you can walk between the rows, as they grow add more compost/soil to the plant just below the growth area, think you get much bigger yields.
Glad to hear you too have had good weather today.
it was so nice we took the family and dog a walk to see all the young lambs. So cute they are, the way they run around playing. They are on my fave stretch of Heritage coast. Don't know if you will be able to see it, but this is the cliff walk we like to go on there, not far from where we live....

thanks for the guitar site, I will show that to my daughter.
Good luck with your aim to impress your nephew with your playing skills. Go for it, dig out that cassette, you know you can do it.
Yes, good idea to prepare that mower. The grass cutting season is not far away now. I have noticed it has already started growing in our back again. Glad to hear your grow your own veggie plans are going according to plans. Me and Hicky will be expecting an invite for dinner, the first time you make a meal with your home grown veg.
Hicky
Good idea to have a quiet day today, after your busy work week. Do they do nice food at your garden centre? Or is it the burger van? Hope you enjoy your samosas. I had a break from cooking tonight, so we had bread rolls, brie, grapes and mayo. OH had ham on his. Followed my my fave blueberry crumble and custard. Have you had any visitors today? Sounds like that will look nice when the fence next door is done.
did either of you watch Over the Rainbow tonight? I really enjoyed it. they did very well, I thought.
your 2 posts tonight appeared whlst I was typing mine.
I agree Emptbox
if all your sales bring in that much money, you are going to take a while to hit the jackpot.
Hicky
sounds like you have had a house full today. Your poor SIL, that arthritus is really nasty. Hope her knees improve when she gets over the op. Hope you enjoy your plaice, that is a nice fish. Do you have it plain, in breadcrmbs, or in batter?
I am watching that Ant and Ec show, quite good, nothing else to watch anyway.
Mollie, that clifftop walk looks nice.
I used to enjoy walks along the cliff with my dog when we lived by the sea in Berwickshire. The cliffs weren't quite as impressive as those ones though.
I watched the 'Over the Rainbow' prog again, but they shouldn't have had it on 2 nights in a row. I wasn't paying much attention, cos that's when my ebay sale was coming to an end. The tension was almost unbearable.
Hicky, your SiL sounds in a bad way with all her aches and pains.
The knees should improve quickly though.
I've only got 10 seed potatoes, so I'll not be too fussy how I plant them, but I know to earth them up as they grow.
They're first earlies - Maris Bard, so I'm hoping for a few new potatoes.
Remember to put the clocks forward tonight.
That cliff walk looks lovely and nice beaches as well, just make sure it's safe, cliffs have a habit of falling down every now and then.
The garden centre does snack food, but it says 9 to 11 breakfast but never been there that early so not sure what that entails., but it says lunch 12 till 2 then afternoon tea 3 onwards
They are doing OK with the fence, still quite a bit to do, they are doing it themselves, never got the professionals in.
I watched the Rainbow program, not really my thing though.
Still got a couple of clocks to change, blinking nuisance.
Went to reception, had ordered the Buffet, but realised there was an awful lot of food, never seen so much at a reception, asked the caterers why they had supplied so much food and was shown the order form, they had filled in 1 child and 40 grown-ups, but it had looked like food for 140, no wonder there was so much food eh.
All the gand here, well e little ones and 3 grown ups have gone for a meal, I had a big brekkie of Saltfish and black pud and bacon so couldn't eat a meal.
House full again, for you.
Was that you going to the cremation, or just your MiL's friend?
Bit of a c*ck up on the catering front anyway.
As you say, this changing clocks is a blasted nuisance.
The computers and set top boxes seem to change themselves, but going round all the other clocks was a chore.
I had to get out the manual for the Jag cos I couldn't remember how to change it. I must have done it in October, but I had no recollection.
I've parcelled up that CD player ready to send off. Unfortunately there's no post office in the village, so I'll have to take it into town tomorrow.
What little money I made on it will be swallowed up by fuel costs. Ah well !
I was doing some painting on my van. The back bumper is metal, and had a bit of rust on it, so I rubbed it down yesterday, and put some anti-rust treatment on it, then today i painted it with hammerite.
Unfortunately it's been raining heavily this afternoon, so that won't help the paint to dry.
It wasn't me at the Funeral, just a friend of MIL.
They are talking of a 2 hr summer time differential instead of the one, you would put the clock on an hour for the summer, but in the 1st winter you wouldn't put it back, then the next summer you would put it on an hour, then the winter after you would put it back 1 hr then on an hour in the next summer.
Get me?.
Coronation Street's Carla Gordon will reportedly be in grave danger when her husband Tony escapes from prison, according to reports. Tony (Gray O'Brien) is intent on revenge and comes after the Underworld boss with a gun.
Gordon is in jail for the murder of his love rival Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) and for the attempted murder of Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Tony bribes his cell mate Robbie Sloan (James Fleet) to help him to escape, says The Sun.
Robbie is due to be released and after leaving prison meets Carla (Allison King) pretending he is in the trade and looking to buy lingerie.
He then arranges another meeting with Carla on the day of the planned jailbreak. He returns to the prison and starts a fight with an inmate to create a diversion.
During the scuffle, Tony fakes a heart attack and is taken to the hospital for treatment.
However, Robbie is waiting and threatens the guards in the ambulance with a gun and Tony escapes.
The cellmates, then head off to keep Robbie's appointment with Carla.
Work day for you today?
Thanks for the Corrie news. I am so glad to see Tony is to return to Corrie, he is such a brill actor.
I too heard about the clock changing and the 2 hour things, sounds a bit complicated to me, a lot of people have enough trouble with 1 hour, let alone 2.
that is some mistake with the catering. I hope the bill for the bill payer, reflected the true order rather than the one for 140 people!
Sounds like you had a busy day yesterday with all your visitors.
Emptybox
Hope the rain stopped so your van dried ok.
They say we are due heavy rain here today, but it is still bright here at the moment. Sounds like it wasn't worth the bother for you with the CD player and ebay. It would probably of been easier to donate it to the charity shop next time you went shopping.
We went for a nice walk in my fave village a couple of miles from here.it is a very small village, just a church, and some gorge cottages there. It is part of an old estate. Here are some pics of the cottages, they looked so pretty with the daffs
out.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com...76899_3f1f52943d.jpg
http://static.panoramio.com/ph...riginal/17312239.jpg
There are a few with thatched rooves, this big one in the pic is my fave. They have hens in the back garden.
Yesterday OH realised he had forgotten to MOT the car, and it was overdue, and of course he was due to start a new job today, so needed his car. Luckily he wan't due to start till late morning today, so he had to franctically ring round garages till he found one to do it today, then walk to the hire car place, book a days hire, (ÂĢ40 for a day hire), then drive car to garage for MOT, then come home in taxi, then drive in hire car to new job. Fortunately he just texted me to say car has passed, so he will have it back for tommorrow.
It did look a nice cup of coffee, someone wanted one on twitter so I gave her that cup.
I think the clock moving in total 2 hrs might solve a few problems, one moved you only move the hr as you do dnow, so it wouldn't be a problem.
Rain and snow this week.
Don't know what happened about all the food and who is paying, it depends who's fault it is I suppose.
It wasn't a bad day really.
Loved the cottages and the thatched roofs, so clever aren't they.
Glad your Car passed it's MOT, one problem out of the way.
PS, when you get your new MOT, there's a peel off ticket on the bottom that you can tear off and stick in your car.
Wet here today.
Went into town to post that parcel and do a few other things.
Strangely when I weighed the parcel on my bathroom scales it came to 4.5Kg, but on the post office scales it came to 5.25Kg, and cost more than I'd charged for p&p.
Something suspicious there.
Those cottages look nice Mollie. I like the look of thatched cottages, there are a few round here.
What a pallarver with your OH's MoT? Glad it got sorted in the end.
I don't see the point of changing the time at all really?
The whole point of time-zones is so the sun is at it's highest point at noon local time. That's why we have Greenwich Mean Time. Putting the clocks forward is just getting away from that.
It doesn't give you any more daylight, just means it's lighter later in the evening.
Before the time change it wasn't getting dark till nearly 7pm here anyway. That's late enough for anyone surely?
Can only think that your scales aren't calibrated.
I think they want as much Sun for the plant growth, they don't want the street lights coming on early, the cost saving is enormous and it needs to be light when the offices close, the rush hour as this helps the accident rate, which soars in the dark.
I'm off tomorrow, going to try and get some crab legs.
No, I don't suppose my bathroom scales are very accurate. Not at those little values anyway. I should have used the kitchen scales really.
After taking into account the postal charges, ebay charges and Paypal charges, I worked out that I made a profit of exactly one penny.
And that's not counting fuel charges.
Still, you know what Mr Micawber used to say?
I'm still not convinced there's a real case for changing the clocks Hicky?
You don't get any more or less sunlight by changing the clocks, and the plants don't know the time anyway.
The streetlight argument is a bit more valid I suppose? It means that the lights come on later in the evening in Summer. Then when we go to GMT, in the Winter, the streetlights can go off earlier in the mornings, and kids can go to school in the light.
But I don't think it makes a lot of difference?
It's not a life or death thing anyway. Just a bit of a nuisance for me.
Good luck with your crab leg hunt Tomorrow.
Weather not too good today, quite a bit of rain.
Got my Crab Legs anyway, as well as Chinese Chicken wings, box of, Wonton Soups, real Haggis, Lots of goodies, and a big round bar of black pudding.
Been busy on twitter, so many people on it.
Work tomorrow as well.
I wonder if you are still crab hunting Hicky?
How many did you catch ? What is a crab hunt? Does it involve a little bucket, wellies on, and wading in the rock pools?
Thanks for the mot sticker hint, my OH certainly needs something to remind him about things.
Emptybox
oh dear, only 1 penny profit is not much after all the convenience, is it?
I see some areas up north have had snow today. Wonder if you have?
I went a walk to the post office this morning, and it was really mild, so I just had T shirt, and coat, then went to town with my friend, and I was sooo cold I had to go and buy a jumper. And I don't usually feel the cold. Good excuse to buy a jumper, and with my vouchers I only paid ÂĢ1 for it, so can't complain.
Not much on tellie tonight...
Very wet here today, been pouring all day, but no sign of any snow.
Just have to see what tomorrow brings, weatherwise?
Not done much today, and as you say Mollie, not much on telly.
I watched the second part of Blood and Oil on BBC2.
Those vouchers of yours seem endless Mollie.
Hope you enjoy all your goodies Hicky.
Night.
It's not very heavy, and is quite wet, so it's not really lying, but the lawn's white again.
I hear it's even worse in my Brother's neck of the woods (Lanarkshire). Blizzards and road closures.
Hope everybody's having a good day.
Hicky..
hope work isn't oveworking you today.
Emptybox
snow again? Just as we changed to summer time, winter seemed to come back again.
Yes with a family of 5 to shop for, I do like to collect vouchers. This time it wasn't Tescos, but a local cheap clothes shop, and you get a stamp every time you spend ÂĢ5.
Had the cold weather there, meant a stop to your gardening work?
Raining and quite cold here today, so I have dug my fleece out again.
Nearly the end of the tax year, so I have some accounts to do, Good job I have an accountant to do most of it. OH will get paid weekly on this contract instead of monthly, which is better.
Just rain here, nothing exciting.
Been busy all day, made it worse by oversleeping again, got up at 6.50, put the alarm off at 5.30 and must have turned over.
Still got to work early though.
Got plenty of Crab to eat anyway.
Had a Wonton soup and a plate of Spicy Chinese Chicken wings, yummy.
I'm off now till Tuesday anyway.
It looks like the Bank Holidays will mess up my work days next week now.
Well the snow didn't stay long, and we actually had a bit of sunshine this afternoon.
Very cold though. Had to turn the heating right up again.
Seemingly there's been a lot of snow round about though.
I didn't get any papers today. The road from Edinburgh must have been blocked.
You've got a strange idea of oversleeping Hicky.
I hope your long weekend isn't interrupted this week.
Hi Mollie.
I haven't done any work all week because of the rain.
Good luck with those accounts.
Had a lovely Li-in today.
Had some undyed smoked cod loin for brekkie, with black pudding.
Not very nice here today, just had hailstones, not a lot though.
Just watching 'This Morning', not much else on.
Nice day here today, windy, so a good drying day, got about 10 washloads out and dried today. Managed to sort out the accounts stuff.
Hicky
yes as Emptybox says, you do indeed have a strange idea of a lie in. But at least your lie ins mean you aren't late for work though. You are enjoying your fish a lot lately, which is good because it is supposed to be good for you. What work days are you doing next week?
My OH is pleased because he has only had to do 4 days work, now has 4 days off, so it will help him get used to the return to work.
Emptybox
I saw on the news how cold it had been up north. The wind was really cold here today. I bet all this rain will mean the grass will lead to a good growth, so you will be busy again soon.
I watched a show tonight about doing up a Country house. I'd love a nice big country mansion, with all those rooms my family would have plenty of room for all their books and hobbies stuff.
It was sunny here today, but cold and windy.
I got a hedge cut, so I've just got a bit of tidying up work to do before the grass cutting starts.
My weather widget says it's only 2 degrees at the moment, and there were gritters out on the road, so i think there's going to be a frost tonight.
The grass won't grow in those temperatures.
I saw that Country House Rescue Mollie. I like a bit of space, but I don't think I'd like a huge house crumbling down around me. Also it'd be impossible to keep warm.
Makes good watching though.
Watching the Swedish version of Wallender at the moment.
I think I prefer the English version.
Never tried fish with black pudding before Hicky. Probably tastes better than it sounds?
Black pudding, egg and bacon is what I like.
Coundt get on this site earlier today.
I hope you have all had a good day.
It was very showery here today, but we did manage to squeeze a walk in when the sun popped out for a short time, inbetween the heavy downpours. Went for brekkie at Asda today. Very nice as usual.
Empytbox
glad to hear you managed to get out and do a bit of work. Our grass is definately growing here now, but much too wet to cut it. OH wants a new mower, doesn't like the last one he got, it is too hard to use when the grass is damp, so he wants a flymo.
Yes you are right, a Country house would be cold and damp, I know our last stone built house was a lovely big house, but it was always cold, and you had to keep the damp at bay all the time.
Hicky
have you had visitors today? Or been out somewhere nice?
Did anyone watch that Door programme? A bit of a copy of I'm A celelbrity, I thought. But not much else on to watch.
3.7 deg outside at the Mo.
Had a good li-in today though, haven't been out either.
Gat a busy weekend though, a meal at my Lads tomorrow, a wedding do tomorrow night I think, a gathering at my place Sunday it seems, probably a Buffet, got a Lazy Suzanne from Costco to put the small stuff on for serving.
I agree that the fish and the black pud are unusual but didn't know what to have with the fish and I've loads of black pud as the one from Cosco is the big long commercial one.
Am loving this 28" TV I have now in my Puter room, of course I have Sky on it from downstairs.
Time for Bo Bo's now I recon, busy on twitter as well.
It was a very frosty start today, but mostly sunny.
I rewarded myself with a day off after my efforts the day before.
I don't half look after myself?
Went out for my weekly shopping.
There's very little grass growth here Mollie. I might try cutting some in the town next week though?
When you say a flymo, do you mean the hover ones, or the ones with wheels?
I watched that Door thing, but it was very contrived, as you say.
Probably filmed in little bits as well. It was a bit suspicious when they got wet and dirty from one challenge, but emerged clean and dry again.
Still I guess it would be fun if it's celebrities you liked?
Have a nice Easter weekend.
A love day here, looks like a Easter Egg hunt in the park over the way, lots of children and parents here anyway.
Haven't eaten as i'm dining at one of my lads at 1pm.
Think i've got a wedding reception tonight as well.
Got a full house here tomorrow as well, some of my Lads and all the little ones are due.
Beautiful day anyway, wasn't expected to be so nice, have even left a pullover off.
Sounds like you've got a busy weekend ahead.
I like the way these things just kinda wash over you. You think you're going to a wedding, but you're not sure?
Hopefully your OH is more on the ball with the arrangements?
The weather's not very nice here. Cloudy and drizzly. Milder though (8 degrees).
Looking forward to the new Doctor Who this evening.
I try not to get too involved, in case of torture, best to know as little as possible, maybe that doesn't apply to wedding receptions though.
Had a lovely Roast dinner at my lads, he did well.
O/H is on the ball OK, it's all written down.
Just had 3 young lads ring to see if we want the cars washed.
They must be joking.
Emptybox
Good for you, giving yourself a day off. i am sure you will be very busy when the real spring grass growth gets undereway. Yes The Door is very contrived, I think. Fancy Jenny not been scared of those awful spiders and snakes, but being terrified of birds. I still think she did really well though.
I enjoyed watching "Somewhere over the Rainbow".
What did you think of the Dr Who?
Hicky
Gosh, what a busy weekend you have ahead. Glad you enjoyed your lad's roast. I bet the littlies will be high on choccy as it is Easter Sunday tommorrow. It is a good job you are easy going with all the activities you have on the go right now. Hope you are having fun at the wedding reception. Who got married?
Fancy ringing to see if you wanted the car cleaned.
Me and OH went to Ikea today to get a bit of furntiture for bedroom storage. We got a nice wardrobe , ÂĢ50 off from the reject section. It only had a few scatches you could hardly see. We had a really nice brekkie there, and it was only 99p. I gave OH my sausage and bacon, and he gave me his grilled tomato.
We had a few really heavy showers today, but managed to avoid them on the whole. Hope it is nice tommororw, we like to go to the seaside on bank hols.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your Saturday.
Goodnight both.
My drizzle turned to very heavy rain later.
Yes, probably best not to know too much Hicky. You never know when the thumb screws will be employed?
Name, rank and number only.
My brother gets a lot from Ikea Mollie. I've never been. There isn't one in the Borders, unfortunately. Glad you got a nice wardrobe.
I thought Doctor Who was fantastic.
I thought I might miss David Tennant, but I didn't at all. Perhaps because the episode was so full on and absorbing.
I think those two will be very good, and give it a very different feel.
I'm just having a quiet day tomorrow. Can't remember if there'll be any papers tomorrow? We got them on Friday as usual, but Sunday might be different? I'll just go down for them as usual, and if the shop is shut, I'll just pretend i was just window shopping.
Trying to work out whose wedding it was, will have to ask O/H, i'm not sure, I know them but the Family is too big for me to keep track of.
I recorded 'Door' and Dr Who and Piers Morgan, not sure if they all worked.
