Roxanne Pallett: Dancing on Ice tour has been gruelling.. and left me with fair share of injuries
Oct 1 2009 By Rick Fulton
IT has been six months since sexy Roxanne Pallett first showed her daredevil moves on Dancing on Ice.
And it has been four months since the ITV show first went on tour and Roxanne began a gruelling schedule skating at the O2 Arena and the Wembley Arena in London.
However, performing scary stunts such as The Headbanger day after day has taken its toll on the gorgeous actress.
The 26-year old former Emmerdale star revealed: "I can't sleep.
"I've been on tour for months and it now takes me until 2am or 3am before I even get tired.
"My body and mind still think I'm performing. I've been coming alive at 1am during the tour.
"It takes ages to wind down and get back to reality. It's really hard."
While it's hardly Keith Richards coming off a two-year Rolling Stones tour, Roxanne admits she is struggling to get back into the real world.
And she still has the scars to remind her of that incredible ice journey.
She revealed that just as the tour was about to end, she damaged ribs close to her spine while doing the Necklace routine with professional partner Dan Whiston.
The move saw Roxanne with her legs round Dan's neck before he spun her in the air.
She said: "I was on Codeine for 48 hours and every painkiller you could imagine.
"After it happened, Christopher Dean was holding my hand while a physio was massaging my rib back judge into my spine.
And when I woke up, Suzanne Shaw had bought me a chip buttie and a can of Coke. It felt like it was my birthday and it was exactly what I needed. You can tell we are both Northern girls."
The horror injury wasn't her only setback during the filming and the tour.
"I hurt my back during a live show," she said. "I took the skin off my back and still have the scars from that. Then I fell and Zoe Salmon's blade went in to my back. I had to have stitches for that. "Ray Quinn may have won but I hold the trophy for worst injuries.
"But it was all worth it. My motto is, 'Wait until I tell my kids'."
Clearly Dancing on Ice is dangerous - and, on the face of it, appears to be nothing like its rival, Strictly Come Dancing, which is currently attracting big TV audiences on BBC1.
But foxy Roxy - who played Jo Stiles in the Dales soap until December last year - doesn't see Strictly as less of a challenge .
She said: "It's fantastic - and not wimpy. Anybody that can put themselves through an ordeal like ballroom dancing or ice skating, to learn a craft like that in front of the nation, well, I think they deserve a medal because it's really hard.
And she has an idea - get axed Strictly panelist Arlene Phillips as a judge on Dancing on Ice.
Earlier this year, she reportedly called for Dancing on Ice judges Jason Gardiner and Ruthie Henshall to be sacked, and reckons Arlene would be perfect for the celebrity skating show.
"I think Dancing on Ice should snap her up. She's fantastic and a very talented lady."
The firecracker with the chocolate eyes was happy to give her opinion on the issue of whether Arlene should be re-instated after fans criticised her replacement, Alesha Dixon.
She said: "Who said axing Arlene was about her age? Aren't people just jumping the gun?
"Look at Cheryl Cole. She went on The X Factor and no one said anything about her replacing Sharon Osbourne.
"It's the same with Alesha. They both have experience on these shows. After all, Alesha won Strictly - she's done it. "For shows to progress, you need to update them.
"You are always going to have changes. It's not about age, it's about evolving."
There is also a huge fight between the BBC - who screen Strictly - and ITV1, who transmit The X Factor.
They go head-to-head on Saturday nights but Roxanne admits she is a fan of both the shows. She said: "They have both brought sport back to television. Ballroom dancing and ice skating were forgotten sport and crafts.
"The two channels have made them trendy and kids are enjoying them."
Roxanne took her mum, who is a massive fan of Strictly, to the show on two occasions last year and is backing Oxo advert mum Lynda Bellingham to do well.
Although Lynda is one of the favourites to be voted off, Roxanne said: "I wouldn't write her off - she's the dark horse. She's very classy and elegant, and looks the part. I think she'll be really good."
She is also a big fan of Hollyoaks actor RickWhittle - but not because of his feet.
"If he can dance the way he looks, he's got my vote," she says. "He'll get the ladies going."
She calls him the eye candy, which is exactly what Roxanne was on Dancing on Ice - as well as fearless, being the first this year to do the dreaded Headbanger.
But the sexy star revealed she has been single for 18 months. She giggled: "I've got very high standards. But being single is my choice.
"I just don't like anyone. I like pretty boys that look like a girl."
Bursting out laughing, she roars: "That makes me sound like a lesbian."
Trying to dig herself out of a hole, she names Rob Lowe and Ben Affleck as 'pretty boys' she likes.
The star, who admitted being in a past abusive relationship said: "I like cute pretty boys that don't know they look nice.
"I've met too many boys that know they are good-looking and lack a personality or intellect."
However, she might not find too many 'pretty boys' in her next challenge.
Roxanne has teamed up with Pringles Xtreme for a series of challenge events.
Scots guys will get the chance to compete against Pringles Xtreme girls - who include a football freestyler and an international arm-wrestling champion - at The Loft in Glasgow on October 22.
But the guys won't get a chance to have a go against Roxanne.
"I'm all talk and no action," she said. "I've earned my Brownie points - I did a Headbanger on Dancing on Ice.
"Let's see if a guy could try that." The Pringles Xtreme tour goes to Ireland and around England before arriving in Glasgow, and Roxanne is looking forward to the Scottish leg.
She said: "Scotland is near my neck of the woods as I'm from Carlisle, so I'm hoping Scots will do me proud."
Since the Dancing on Ice tour, Roxanne starred in a UK tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing, and will make her panto debut at the end of the year as Cinderella at the Newcastle Theatre Royal.
But don't expect to see her on other celebrity reality shows as she reckons Dancing and Strictly are the only two that involve a skill.
Eating a kangaroo's bits on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! doesn't count, she says.
"If there's a spider in my kitchen, I freak out," she laughed."I don't want the nation watching that."
